Nuevitas
Nuevitas is a municipality and port town in the Camagüey Province of Cuba. The large bay was sighted by Christopher Columbus and crew during their first voyage of exploration in 1492. History Founded in 1775 during the time of the Spanish Empire, the city was moved to its present site in 1828. Before the 1977 national municipal reform, Nuevitas was divided into the barrios of Primero, Segundo, Tercero, Alvaro Reinoso, Lugareño, Redención, San Miguel and Senado. Geography Nuevitas is located on the Guincho peninsula on the north coast, and borders with the municipalities of Guáimaro, Minas, Manatí (in Las Tunas Province) and Morón (in Ciego de Ávila Province). The municipality includes the villages of Camalote, Pastelillo, Playa Santa Lucía, San Agustín, San Miguel de Bagá and Santa Rita. Nuevitas–Camagüey Road
The Nuevitas–Camagüey Road (5–445) is a two-lane road connecting the municipalities of Nuevitas and Camagüey in Cuba. It had a length of in 1947, although it was shortened due to the construction of the Circunvalación Norte of Camagüey, becoming about . Characteristics The road was made to connect Nuevitas and other villages nearby with the rest of the country and have a way to trade sugar, as Nuevitas is the primary port for exports of it. The road has two sections, one going from Camagüey to the Ignacio Agramonte International Airport, where the lanes are separated, and from the airport to Nuevitas, where they conjoin. History Beginning the construction of the road proved to be tough. They had a lack of equipment to make the road, and they needed 32 dump trucks, five tankers, six rollers, two cranes, two graders, a bulldozer, a paver, and over 300 workers in order to finally finish the road. Camagüey Province
Camagüey () is the largest of the provinces of Cuba. Its capital is Camagüey. Other towns include Florida and Nuevitas. Geography Camagüey is mostly low lying, with no major hills or mountain ranges passing through the province. Numerous large cays (including what used to be one of Fidel Castro's favourite fishing spots; the Archipiélago Jardines de la Reina) characterize the southern coasts, while the northern coast is lined by Jardines del Rey of the Sabana-Camagüey Archipelago. Emilia Bernal
Emilia Bernal Agüero (Nuevitas, 8 May 1882 – 1964) was a Cuban poet, who also cultivated other genres such as essay, translation and the autobiographical novel. Along with several other middle-class, educated women writer contemporaries -Lydia Cabrera, Teresa Casuso Morín, Rita Geada, Ana Maria Simo, and Hilda Perera Soto- Bernal left Cuba after the 1959 Revolution. Armando Coroneaux Isidoro (born 2 July 1985) is a Cuban international footballer who plays for the Cuba national football team. CLub career Coroneaux has played his entire career for Camagüey and scored 100 league goals for the club.
