Notosacantha
''Notosacantha'' is a genus of cassidine leaf-beetle with nearly 300 species across the Old World and typical of the tribe Notosacanthini. Within Cassidinae, this genus is among the most speciose. They can be very host specific on their host plants. The biology of most species, even the host plants are unknown, but a detailed biology is available for Notosacantha dorsalis. Many species have narrow distributions, especially those from islands in Southeast Asia. Nearly 18 species occur in India and many are difficult to identify from external morphology. Cassidinae
The Cassidinae (tortoise and leaf-mining beetles) are a subfamily of the leaf beetles, or Chrysomelidae. The antennae arise close to each other and some members have the pronotal and elytral edges extended to the side and covering the legs so as to give them the common name of tortoise beetles. Some members, such as in the tribe Hispini, are notable for the spiny outgrowths to the pronotum and elytra. Description The "cassidoids" have a rounded outline with the edges of the pronotum and elytra expanded, spreading out to cover the legs and head. They are often colourful and metallic, with ornate sculpturing; a few species have the ability to change colour due to water movements within the translucent cuticle. All members of the subfamily have the mouthparts reduced into a cavity in the head capsule, the legs have four segmented tarsi. The hispoids have larvae that are ecological diverse as leaf miners or cryptic exophagous feeders, while the cassidoids feed freely externally ...

Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat
Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat (29 March 1799, Paris – 16 December 1884, Paris) was a French entomologist. He specialized mainly on the beetles and was a founder of the Societe entomologique de France in 1832. Chevrolat worked as a toll administrator in government service in Paris. He was an amateur entomologist who studied mainly beetles and birds. He published nearly 250 notes and papers and was the Species description, author of more than 2,000 species. He was one of the founders of the Société entomologique de France in 1832. On his death, his collection was dispersed.
