Northbank (Brisbane)
North Bank was a proposed commercial development in the Brisbane River in the centre of Brisbane, Australia. The site to be built on started from William Jolly Bridge and stretched to Goodwill Bridge at Gardens Point. There was minimal public support for the proposal. Project plan The proposed Multiplex design for North Bank (opposite South Bank) contained eight skyscrapers for office space and residential use, with the highest building being 46 stories. It also contained a pedestrian bridge, 'open spaces', riverfront promenade and an olympic-sized public swimming pool. The proposal entailed the government allowing Multiplex to build out as far as 90 metres into the Brisbane River. Brisbane River
The Brisbane River (Turrbal language, Turrbal: ) is the longest river in South East Queensland, Australia. It flows through the city of Brisbane, before emptying into Moreton Bay on the Coral Sea. John Oxley, the first European to explore the river, named it after the Governors of New South Wales, Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane in 1823. William Jolly Bridge
The William Jolly Bridge is a heritage-listed road bridge over the Brisbane River between North Quay, Brisbane, North Quay in the Brisbane central business district and Grey Street in South Brisbane, within City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Harding Frew and built from 1928 to 1932 by Baulderstone#MR Hornibrook, MR Hornibrook. The style of the bridge's design is art deco, Art Deco, which was popular at the time. Goodwill Bridge, Brisbane
The Goodwill Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist bridge which spans the Brisbane River in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The bridge connects the South Bank Parklands in South Brisbane to Gardens Point in the Brisbane CBD. The Goodwill Bridge was opened on 21 October 2001 and takes its name from the Goodwill Games, which were held in Brisbane that year. Gardens Point, Brisbane
Gardens Point is the southernmost area of the peninsula that forms the central business district of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located immediately south of Alice Street and is bounded by the Brisbane River on its other three sides. Historically a convict farm that supplied a variety of food crops for the fledgling Moreton Bay penal settlement, Gardens Point would eventually become an experimental botanical reserve, and then gardens and parkland for the citizens of Brisbane. The South Bank Parklands are located at South Bank within the suburb of South Brisbane in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The parkland, on the transformed site of Brisbane's World Expo 88, was officially opened to the public on 20 June 1992. Peter Garrett
Peter Robert Garrett (born 16 April 1953) is an Australian musician, environmentalist, activist and former politician. In 1973, Garrett became the lead singer of the Australian rock band Midnight Oil. As a performer he is known for his signature bald head, his eccentric dance style, and a "mesmerising onstage presence". He served as President of the Australian Conservation Foundation for ten years before being elected for the Labor Party as the Member of the House of Representatives for the seat of Kingsford Smith in the 2004 election. Riverside Expressway
The Riverside Expressway is part of the Pacific Motorway that runs through Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is located on the western side of the Brisbane CBD and is made up of various bridges and overpasses. The North Bank development was formerly proposed to alleviate the visual disruption of the expressway and recapture Brisbane for pedestrians. The Expressway runs the entire western length of the Brisbane CBD from Coronation Drive to the Captain Cook Bridge at Gardens Point, an estimated before becoming the Pacific Motorway which ends at the Gold Coast.
