Niue Community Service Star
The Niue National Awards is a system of orders, decorations and medals to recognise the achievements of, or service by, Niueans. It was established in 2020. Previously Niue had fallen under the New Zealand royal honours system. The awards are decided by the National Awards Committee and announced each year on Constitution Day, 19 October. There are three levels of awards: * The Niue Distinguished Service Cross (NDSC) for distinguished service, for those who have "contributed many years of outstanding service to the people and nation of Niue"; * The Niue Public Service Medal (NPSM) for those who have contributed significantly as members of the Niue Public Service; and * The Niue Community Service Star (NCSS) for community service. The first awards were made in October 2020. Successive awards have been made in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Order (honour)
An order is a visible honour awarded by a sovereign state, monarch, dynastic house or organisation to a person, typically in recognition of individual merit, that often comes with distinctive insignia such as collars, medals, badges, and sashes worn by recipients. Modern honour systems of state orders and dynastic orders emerged from the culture of orders of chivalry of the Middle Ages, which in turn emerged from the Catholic religious orders. Terminology The word order (), in the case referred to in this article, can be traced back to the chivalric orders, including the military orders, which in turn trace the name of their organisation back to that of the Catholic religious orders. Jack Willie Lipitoa
Jack Willie Lipitoa (born ) is a Niuean politician and former Member of the Niue Assembly. He is the older brother of former Cabinet Minister Enetama Lipitoa. Lipitoa worked as a teacher, first at Matalave and then at Niue High School. Niue is a self-governing island country in free association with New Zealand. It is situated in the South Pacific Ocean and is part of Polynesia, and predominantly inhabited by Polynesians. One of the world's largest coral islands, Niue is commonly referred to as "The Rock", which comes from the traditional name "Rock of Polynesia". Narita Viliamu Tahega
Narita Viliamu Tahega (née Narita Janne Freda Tuga Viliamu; born 4 July 1989) is a Niuean weightlifter. From 2003 to 2011, Viliamu Tahega won 38 medals in the 75 kg+ weight class across 13 international weightlifting competitions, giving her the recognition of having won the most medals of any Niuean athlete in international competition. Events Viliamu Tahega competed in include the Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games, Pacific Mini Games, and Oceania & South Pacific weightlifting championship. Her total medal record consists of 14 gold, 23 silver, and 1 bronze medal. After her retirement from competitive weightlifting, Viliamu Tahega also served as an official in the Oceania Talent Identification Programme which, with the support of the International Weightlifting Federation, trains thousands of young weightlifters and selects top athletes to attend a training camp at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute. Naea Michael Jackson is a Niuean journalist and former politician who is the owner of '' Niue Star''. Career In the 1970s and 1980s, he was the government printer and government press photographer in Niue. He published the '' Tohi Tala Niue'', Niue's government-owned weekly newspaper. Atapana Siakimotu
Atapana Siakimotu ( – 2022) was a Niuean politician, diplomat, and public servant. He served as the List of Speakers of the Niue Assembly, speaker of the Niuean Assembly between 2002 and 2011. Biography Siakimotu was educated at Lincoln University (New Zealand), Lincoln College in New Zealand, graduating with a diploma in horticulture. He previously worked as principal of Niue High School, director of education, and as consul-general to New Zealand. He was appointed speaker of the assembly after the 2002 Niuean general election, 2002 election, and was re-appointed in 2005 and 2008. Young Vivian
Mititaiagimene Young Vivian (born 12 November 1935) is a Niuean politician and diplomat, who served as Premier of Niue twice, the first time from December 1992 to March 1993 following the death of Sir Robert Rex, and the second from 2002 to 2008. He also served as a Cabinet Minister multiple times, first as Minister of Education, Economic Development and Agriculture and later as Minister of Finance under Robert Rex, and in the Cabinet of Sani Lakatani.
