Nir Barkat
Nir Barkat (; born 19 October 1959) is an Israeli businessman and politician, currently serving as Minister of Economy. He previously served as mayor of Jerusalem from 2008 to 2018. Biography Nir Barkat was born and raised in Jerusalem. His father, Zalman, was a physics professor at the Hebrew University, and his mother was a folk dancing instructor. His grandparents immigrated from Poland and Russia. Barkat joined the 98th Paratroopers Division of the Israel Defense Forces in 1977 and served for six years, including reserve duty, reaching the rank of major. Barkat was wounded in combat in Lebanon, during Operation Movil. He earned a BA in computer science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and lives in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit HaKerem with his wife, Beverly. They have three daughters. Haredi Judaism (, ) is a branch of Orthodox Judaism that is characterized by its strict interpretation of religious sources and its accepted (Jewish law) and traditions, in opposition to more accommodating values and practices. Meir Porush
Meir Porush (; born 11 June 1955) is an Israeli politician who has served as a member of the Knesset for the Haredi Agudat Yisrael faction of United Torah Judaism in several spells since 1996. He served as the Deputy Minister of Education. Biography Porush was born in Jerusalem. His father Rabbi Menachem Porush (1916–2010) was one of the longest-serving Knesset members. Meir was educated in a yeshiva. After leaving yeshiva, he served in the IDF, and supports further Haredi participation in military service. Uri Lupolianski (; born 1951) is an Israeli politician who served as the mayor of Jerusalem from 2003 to 2008 and is the founder of Yad Sarah. Biography Born August 29, 1951 in Haifa, Israel, Lupolianski studied at the Yavne School in Haifa and then attended Yeshivat Hanegev and Yeshivat Torah Ore. He served in the Israel Defense Forces as a paramedic and worked as a teacher at a religious school in Jerusalem. Lupolianski is married to Michal Lupolianski (Schneller), granddaughter of Rabbi Isaac Breuer. They have 12 children.
