Nicole Powell
Nicole Kristen Powell (born June 22, 1982) is an American basketball coach who was the head women's basketball coach at University of California, Riverside. As a player, she had a standout collegiate career at Stanford University, Powell had an 11-year WNBA career most notably with the Sacramento Monarchs where she was an All-Star and won a WNBA Championship. Powell also played professionally overseas for Fenerbahçe Istanbul. Powell had previously served on the coaching staffs at Gonzaga, Oregon, and Grand Canyon before being named the head coach of UC Riverside in March 2020. Early life Born in Sierra Vista, Arizona, Powell played for Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, where she was named a WBCA All-American. She also was named a 2000 Parade Magazine First Team All-American in 2000 and the Arizona Player of the Century by the Arizona Republic. WNBA Most Improved Player Award
The Women's National Basketball Association's Most Improved Player Award is an annual Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) award given since the 2000 WNBA season, to the most improved player of the regular season. The winner is selected by a panel of sportswriters throughout the United States, each of whom casts a vote for first, second and third place selections. Each first-place vote is worth five points; each second-place vote is worth three points; and each third-place vote is worth one point. The player with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award. 2003 Pan American Games
The 2003 Pan American Games, officially the XIV Pan American Games () and commonly known as Santo Domingo 2003, were held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from August 1 to 17, 2003. The successful bid for the Games was made in the mid-1990s, when Dominican Republic had one of the highest growth rates in Latin America. All 42 Pan American Sports Organization, PASO countries and over 5,223 athletes pre-registered for participation in the XIV Pan American Games. An additional 2,425 trainers and delegates attended. List Of All-Pac-12 Conference Women's Basketball Teams
The All-Pac-12 Women's basketball team is a currently dormant annual Pac-12 Conference honor bestowed on the best players in the conference following every college basketball season. Pac-12 coaches select 15 players for one all-conference team. The first year 1986-87, the conference recognized players as two five-woman teams, followed by one 12-woman first team from 1987 through 2007. For two years in 2008 & 2009, there were three five-woman teams selected. On the last day of the conference regular season, Pac-12 coaches submit their votes and are allowed to vote for their own players. Each all-conference team member receives an award. Players who are not placed on the team, but received at least one vote, earn honorable mention. The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) was founded in 1956 with the urging of National Collegiate Athletic Association director Walter Byers to serve the interests of journalists who cover college basketball. The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed on outstanding athletes in the United States who are considered to be among the best athletes in their respective sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports have multiple All-America teams, and list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. All-America teams are composed of outstanding U.S. amateur athletes. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. Pac-12 Conference Women's Basketball Tournament
The Pac-12 Conference women's basketball tournament, otherwise known as the Pac-12 tournament, was the annual concluding tournament for the NCAA women's college basketball in the Pac-12. The Tournament was held every year from 2002 to 2024. From 2002 to 2010, it was called the Pac-10. Seeding was based on regular season records. The tournament was held at different conference city locations through the 2012 season. After a six-year run at KeyArena in Seattle from 2013 to 2018, the tournament moved to the Las Vegas Strip, already the location for the Pac-12 men's tournament, for at least 2019 and 2020, due to the closure of KeyArena for major renovations to accommodate the Seattle Kraken. The Pac-12 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year is a dormant basketball award given to the Pac-12 Conference's most outstanding player. The award was first given following the 1986–87 season, the first year in which the league then known as the Pacific-10 Conference (Pac-10) officially sponsored women's sports. Two bodies voted for players of the year. The league's head coaches selected a winner since the award's inception, while media members who cover Pac-12 women's basketball presented their own version of the award in the 2009–10 season.
