Nian Weisi
Nian Weisi (; born May 11, 1933 in Beijing) is a Chinese association football manager and former international football player. As a player he represented the North China team as well as Chinese national team before he moved into management. As a coach he intermittently managed the Chinese national team for over twenty years. Since retiring from professional football, he became the Chinese Football Association president in April, 1988 and held on to this appointment until he retired in August, 1994. He briefly came out of retirement with his participation and promotion of the 2008 Summer Olympics. Playing career Starting his career with the Beijing team Nian Weisi was given the chance to be included in the newly formed North China team when the Beijing team and Tianjin team merged to play in the first fully national league in 1951. 1978 Asian Games
The 8th Asian Games () were held from 9 to 20 December 1978, in Bangkok, Thailand. Originally, the host city was Singapore but Singapore dropped its plan to host the Games due to financial problems. Then Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, was decided to host the 8th Games. But Islamabad also dropped its plan to host the Asian Games due to conflicts with Bangladesh and India. Thailand offered to help and the Asiad therefore was held in Bangkok. On the political front, Israel was expelled from the Asian Games. A total of 55 teams entered the 1958 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds, competing for a total of 16 spots in the final tournament. Sweden as the hosts and West Germany, as the defending champions, qualified automatically, leaving 14 spots open for competition.
