Neef, Sigrid
Sigrid Neef (born 10 October 1944) is a German musicologist and theatre scholar, focused on Russian and Soviet opera. She has been a dramaturge of the director Ruth Berghaus at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin for decades. Life Born in Fraureuth, Neef worked at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin from 1972 to 1993. Like her husband, the musicologist Hermann Neef, she is an expert on Russian and Soviet music, with personal contact to Alfred Schnittke, Rodion Shchedrin, the Dmitri Shostakovich biographer Solomon Wolkow and the director-in-chief of the Bolshoi Theatre, Boris Pokrovsky. Since 1979, Neef has been the long-standing dramaturge of the director Ruth Berghaus, especially for opera. Neef has translated numerous Russian and Hungarian operas, for example Glinka's ''Ruslan and Lyudmila'' together with Jörg Leipold, and works by Shostakovich, Shchedrin, Kyrill Vokov, Gleb Sedelnikov, Igor Rogaljov, Gennady Banshchikov, and Sándor Balassa. Gerd Rienäcker (3 May 1939 – 3 February 2018) was a German musicologist. Life Rienäcker was born on 3 May 1939 in Göttingen as son of the chemist . Rienäcker studied musicology from 1959 to 1964 (minor subject: "art science'") with Ernst Hermann Meyer, Georg Knepler, Walther Vetter, Peter H. ''Wozzeck'' () is the first opera by the Austrian composer Alban Berg. Composed between 1914 and 1922, it premiered in 1925. It is based on the drama '' Woyzeck'', which German playwright Georg Büchner left incomplete at his death. Berg attended the first production in Vienna of Büchner's play on 5 May 1914, and knew at once that he wanted to base an opera on it. Walter Felsenstein (30 May 1901 – 8 October 1975) was an Austrian theater and opera director. He was one of the most important exponents of textual accuracy, productions in which dramatic and musical values were exquisitely researched and balanced.
