Nat G. Kiefer
Ignatz Gerard Kiefer, known as Nat G. Kiefer (February 26, 1939 – July 10, 1985) was an Lawyer, attorney from his native New Orleans, Louisiana, New Orleans, Louisiana, who served in both houses of the Louisiana State Legislature. He was a Louisiana House of Representatives, state representative from 1968 to 1970, and thereafter until his death in office fifteen years later a Louisiana State Senate, state senator. Biography Kiefer ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of New Orleans in 1977, finishing third in the jungle primary by 242 votes to Councilman Joseph V. DiRosa, or less than a half a vote per precinct. DiRosa lost the runoff (general election) to Louisiana Court of Appeals Judge Ernest Morial, who became New Orleans' first black mayor. The Louisiana State Senate (; ) is the upper house of Louisiana’s legislature. Senators serve four-year terms and participate in various committees. Composition The Louisiana State Senate has 39 members elected from single-member districts. Candidates must be registered voters, at least 18 years old, residents of their district for one year, and Louisiana residents for two years. Senate elections use a nonpartisan primary system with runoffs if needed. Elections to the Senate occur every four years and senators are limited to three four-year terms (12 years). Ernest Morial
Ernest Nathan "Dutch" Morial (October 9, 1929 – December 24, 1989) was an American politician and a leading civil rights advocate. He was the first black mayor of New Orleans, serving from 1978 to 1986. He was the father of Marc Morial, who served as Mayor of New Orleans from 1994 to 2002.
