Tom Johnson (American Boxer)
Tom Johnson (born July 15, 1964) is an American former boxer who was the IBF featherweight champion of the world. Professional career Known as "Boom Boom", Johnson turned pro in 1986 and in 1991 challenged Manuel Medina for the IBF Featherweight Title, losing a technical decision. In 1993 he rematched Medina and was able to win the title with a narrow split decision victory. Johnson was able to successfully defend the title 11 times including against Jose Badillo in Germany, before losing the belt to the young phenom Naseem Hamed via 8th round TKO. Johnson never challenged for a major title again, and retired in 2002 after being TKO'd by Jorge Páez. Steve Robinson (boxer)
Steve Robinson (born 13 December 1968, in Cardiff) is a Welsh former professional boxer who held the WBO featherweight title from 1993 to 1995. He was trained by the late boxing coach, Ronnie Rush. Professional career On 17 April 1993 the defending Featherweight Champion, Ruben Palacios from Colombia, was due to defend his title in Washington, England against John Davison from England. However, the champion failed an HIV test by the BBBC prior to the bout and was immediately stripped of his title by the WBO. With only two days to go before the bout, the promoters had to find another opponent to face Davison. Steve Robinson accepted the chance to fight for the WBO crown. Super bantamweight, also known as junior featherweight, is a boxing weight classes, weight class in professional boxing, contested from and up to . There were attempts by boxing promoters in the 1920s to establish this weight class, but few sanctioning organizations or state athletic commissions would recognize it. International Boxing Hall Of Fame
The International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF), located in Canastota, New York, right next to exit 34 of the New York State Thruway, honors boxers, trainers and other contributors to the sport worldwide. Inductees are selected on ballots created through screened public nominations by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America. The IBHOF started as a 1980s initiative by Ed Brophy and other locals to honor Canastota's world boxing champions, Carmen Basilio and Basilio's nephew, Billy Backus; the village of Canastota inaugurated the new museum in 1989 which showcases boxing's rich history. With the opening of the Oneida Indian Nation’s Turing Stone Casino in the nearby city of Verona in the early 90s, a relationship was developed whereas various IBHOF Hall of Fame Weekend events were hosted at the casino.
