Australia sent a delegation to compete at the 1952 Winter Olympics from 14 to 25 February 1952 in Oslo, Norway. Gweneth Molony
Gweneth (or Gwenneth) Molony (born 17 June 1932) is an Australian figure skater. She is the 1949–1951 Australian national champion. She represented Australia at the 1952 Winter Olympics, where she placed 21st. She and Nancy Burley were the first ladies singles skaters to represent Australia at the Olympics. Molony also competed in pair skating; she is the 1949 Australian national champion with partner Adrian Swan. In 2020 at the IOC (International Olympic Committee) headquarters in Lausanne, she was recognised as Australia's first female Winter Olympian. Felix Kaspar
Felix Kaspar (January 14, 1915 in Vienna, Austria – December 5, 2003 in Bradenton, Florida, U.S.) was an Austrian figure skater, a twice World champion, and the bronze medalist in 1936. Kaspar began figure skating at the age of 9. He trained on the artificial ice rink of Eduard Engelmann Jr. Kaspar was renowned for his impressive high jumps. At the outset of World War II, Kaspar was in Australia, where he met his future wife, June. The couple remained married for 54 years and had one daughter named Cherie. Kaspar spent the entirety of World War II in Australia. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Kaspar taught in Hershey, Pennsylvania. In 1965, he relocated with his family to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and worked as a coach at the figure skating center in Golden Valley within the Twin Cities. Sharon Kay Burley Sullivan (born 8 May 1956 in Tripoli, Libya) is an Australian figure skater who competed in ladies singles. She finished first at the Australian Figure Skating Championships four times and competed at the 1976 Winter Olympic Games, coming in twentieth. World Figure Skating Championships
The World Figure Skating Championships are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU). The first World Championships were held in 1896 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and they have been held ever since with only four interruptions. A separate competition for women was established in 1905, with the men's and women's events held as separate competitions for several years. Pair skating was added in 1908 and ice dance in 1952. Skaters are eligible to compete at the World Championships, provided they represent a member nation of the International Skating Union and are selected by their respective federation.
