NS 600 Class
The NS Class 600 were a class of 65 shunting locomotives built by English Electric in England between 1950 and 1957 for Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS). The first 10 were built at Dick, Kerr & Co, Preston and the remaining 55 at Vulcan Foundry, Newton-le-Willows. They are very similar to the British Rail Class 11. ''Today's Railways UK'' is an English-based monthly magazine covering rail transport in Great Britain. It was founded by Platform 5 in January 2002 as ''Entrain'' as a sister publication to '' Today's Railways Europe'', in January 2006 it was rebranded as ''Today's Railways UK''. The magazine was set up by Peter Fox, who wrote a monthly "Grumpy Old Man" Column. It is owned by Platform 5 publications. Fox was editor-in-chief of the magazine until his death in 2011. Robin Sisson, the rail campaigner, worked for Today's Railways UK as assistant editor, under editor-in-chief Peter Fox, from 2006 until his death in 2008. Sisson wrote the monthly "Just the Ticket" feature. The Zuid-Limburgse Stoomtrein Maatschappij (South Limburg Steam Train Company) or ZLSM is a heritage railway operating from its main station of Simpelveld to Schin op Geul and Kerkrade in the south of the Netherlands. The Railway Museum () in Utrecht is the Dutch national railway museum. It was established in 1927 and since 1954 has been housed in the former Maliebaan station. History The museum was established in 1927 and was initially located in one of the main buildings of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch National Railway) in Utrecht. At that time, the collection consisted mostly of pictures, documents, and small objects. In the 1930s the first steps were taken to conserve old historically significant rail equipment. A portion of this collection was lost during World War II. Maliebaan station The collection was briefly located in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, but in the 1950s the museum was moved back to Utrecht. Veluwse Stoomtrein Maatschappij () (VSM) is a Dutch heritage railway between Apeldoorn and Dieren. It passes through the villages of Lieren/Beekbergen, Loenen, and Eerbeek. Rides on steam trains are popular with tourists visiting the region, and that is why VSM operates mainly during the summer vacation. VSM, founded in 1975, is operated by volunteers. In March 2011 one of the individuals who possessed a number of locomotives decided to sell his collection. This could have meant that VSM would lose some of the biggest and most popular locomotives in their collection. VSM decided to buy the whole collection in order to keep for future generations.
