Tampere–Pori Railway
The Tampere–Pori railway is a railway running between the cities of Tampere and Pori in Finland. The line carries passenger traffic from Tampere to Pori via five railway stations and continues as a freight line to the Port of Pori. Tampere–Pori railway was opened in 1895 and the line follows the river Kokemäenjoki. History Planning and construction The idea of a railway linking Pori to inland Finland was first brought up in the 1860s. The railway north of Tampere was initially planned to run from the western side of lake Näsijärvi through the northern parts of Satakunta, from where a branch line would be built via Kankaanpää to Pori. However, in its 1877 session, the Diet of Finland decided to align the Tampere-Haapamäki line to the east of the Näsijärvi, and the first plan for the Pori line fell through. Port of Pori ( fi, Porin satama) is a complex of three harbours. It is by the Gulf of Bothnia in Pori, Finland. The port authority of Pori was established in 1780. Kallo Lighthouse
Kallo Lighthouse (Finnish: ''Kallon majakka'') is a Finnish lighthouse located near the island of Mäntyluoto in the Bothnian Sea, primarily serving the shipping lane of the Port of Pori. History The first lighthouse in the area was built in 1851, but destroyed only three years later as a result of the Crimean War. Its replacement took three decades to arrive, and was completed in 1885. The current lighthouse was built in 1903, designed by a leading architect of the time, Gustaf Nyström. Facilities The octagonal tower is constructed of iron over a granite base, and attached to it is the lighthouse keeper's accommodation made of timber. The light source is made up of two separate lights positioned one on top of the other. The lighthouse also features a fog horn, which was originally manually-operated (hand-cranked), but was motorised in 1906. Kaanaa ( sv, Kanan) is a district in the Meri-Pori area, in the immediate vicinity of Yyteri Beach, in the city of Pori, Finland. The distance to the city center is about 16 kilometers. Spar (platform)
A spar is a marine structure, used for floating oil/gas platforms. Named after navigation channel Spar buoys, spar platforms were developed as an extreme deepwater alternative to conventional platforms. The deep draft design of spars makes them less affected by wind, wave, and currents and allows for both dry tree and subsea production. A spar platform consists of a large-diameter, vertical buoyant cylinder(s) supporting a deck. Spars are permanently anchored to the seabed by way of a spread mooring system composed of either a chain-wire-chain or chain-polyester-chain configuration. The cylinder comprises a number of tanks, the lowest contains ballast, mid-water and/or extracted oil, the upper, air for buoyancy.
