Máire Ní Thuathail
Máire Ní Thuathail (29 July 1959 – 19 September 2016) was an Irish television producer, best known for her lead role in producing the long-running Irish-language soap opera Ros na Rún. She was previously a school teacher. Biography Ní Thuathail was born in Toormakeady, County Mayo, on 29 July 1959. Her father was Tomás O’Toole and her mother was Brigid Ford. The family ran a local pub where Ní Thuathail was one of seven children. Ní Thuathail was educated in Toormakeady before going to University College Galway, where she graduated with a degree in Agricultural Science. Ní Thuathail became a maths and science teacher in Gweedore. After she got a role with Bord na Gaeilge as an education executive, Ní Thuathail got involved with television. Toormakeady
Toormakeady or Tourmakeady (, the official name) is a Gaeltacht in south County Mayo in the west of Ireland. It is located between the shores of Lough Mask and the Partry Mountains, and covers 66.51 square miles. As at the time of the 2011 census, Toormakeady had a total population of 1,007, having dropped from 1,150 in 1991. Toormakeady is also the name of the principal village in the area. Those parts of Ballinchalla Electoral District in Toormakeady and the whole of the Owenbrin Electoral District in Toormakeady together comprise nearly half of the land area of Toormakeady and were previously parts of County Galway. In 1898 they were transferred to County Mayo. From the time of the Great Famine of the mid-1840s onwards, the Toormakeady area has experienced a high level of emigration. County Mayo (; ga, Contae Mhaigh Eo, meaning "Plain of the yew trees") is a county in Ireland. In the West of Ireland, in the province of Connacht, it is named after the village of Mayo, now generally known as Mayo Abbey. Mayo County Council is the local authority. Spiddal ( ga, An Spidéal , meaning 'the hospital') is a village on the shore of Galway Bay in County Galway, Ireland. It is west of Galway city, on the R336 road. It is on the eastern side of the county's Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking area) and of the Connemara region. According to the 2016 census, 35.3% of the population speak Irish on a daily basis outside the education system. It is a centre for tourism with a beach, harbour, and shore fishing. () is an Irish soap opera produced for the Irish-language television channel TG4. The series is set in a fictional village called Ros Na Rún, located near to An Spidéal, and focuses on the domestic and professional lives of its residents. ''Ros na Rún'' has been praised for its tackling of realistic and socially challenging storylines, which got it dubbed "the Wild West". It has dealt with many different storylines, including domestic violence, infidelity, theft, arson, abortion, homosexuality, adoption, murder, rape, drugs, teen pregnancy and paedophilia.
