My Family (film)
''My Family'' is a 1995 independent American drama film directed by Gregory Nava, written by Nava and Anna Thomas, and starring Jimmy Smits, Edward James Olmos, and Esai Morales. The film depicts three generations of a Mexican American family who emigrated from Mexico and settled in East Los Angeles. Plot The story is narrated by the family's oldest son, Paco. The film begins with the father of the family, José Sanchez, making a journey that lasts one year on foot from Mexico to Los Angeles. He travels to Los Angeles to meet a distant relative known as ''El Californio,'' who was born in the city when it was still part of Mexico. They become fast friends and grow a corn farm together. Benito James Martinez (born June 28, 1971) is an American actor, best known for his role as LAPD Captain David Aceveda in the FX police drama ''The Shield'', Luis Torres in '' Sons of Anarchy'' (2011-2012), Todd Denver in ''How to Get Away with Murder'' (2016-2018), Sheriff Diaz in ''13 Reasons Why'' (2019-2020), and for his film role in the movie ''My Family'' (1995) and '' Kill Your Darlings'' (2006). Gregory Nava
Gregory James Nava (born April 10, 1949) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. Personal life Nava was born in San Diego, of Mexican and Basque heritage. Nava graduated from St. Augustine High School in San Diego and went on to attend film school at UCLA where he earned an MFA in 1976. At UCLA he directed the short film ''The Journal of Diego Rodriguez Silva'' (based on the life of García Lorca), and for this work, won the Best Dramatic Film Award at the National Student Film Festival. Nava married Anna Thomas in 1975. They collaborated on many projects, and had sons Christopher (born 1984) and Teddy (born 1985) before separating in 1995. They eventually divorced in 2006. Michael DeLorenzo (born October 31, 1959) is an American actor, director, writer, producer, dancer, and musician. He is known for his work in television and film. Early life DeLorenzo was raised in The Bronx, New York. His late father, Arthur DeLorenzo, was of Italian descent and his late mother, Carmen DeLorenzo, was from Puerto Rico.
