Multiple Personality Detective Psycho
''MPD Psycho'', short for , is a manga series written by Eiji Ōtsuka and illustrated by Shou Tajima, published by Kadokawa Shoten from 1997 to 2016. The series follows a police detective suffering from multiple personality disorder. ''MPD Psycho'' was adapted as a live action television miniseries in 2000, directed by Takashi Miike. Plot Yôsuke Kobayashi is a detective and is on the case of a serial killer who dismembers his victims. The killer later sends Yôsuke's girlfriend dismembered but kept alive. Yôsuke hunts down the killer and due to the events, loses his sanity and develops Dissociative identity disorder with the two main personalities being Kazuhiko Amamiya, a cool headed detective and Shinji Nishizono, a reckless psychopath. Eiji Ōtsuka
is a Japanese social critic, folklorist, media theorist, and novelist. He is currently a professor at International Research Center for Japanese Studies, Kyoto. He graduated from University of Tsukuba with a degree in anthropology, women's folklore, human sacrifice and post-war manga. In addition to his work with manga he is a critic, essayist, and author of several successful non-fiction books on Japanese popular and otaku subcultures. He has written the ''Multiple Personality Detective Psycho'' and ''The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service'' manga series. One of his first animation script works was ''Mahō no Rouge Lipstick'', an adult lolicon Original video animation, OVA. Ōtsuka was the editor for the bishōjo lolicon manga series ''Petit Apple Pie''. Dissociative identity disorder (DID), better known as multiple personality disorder or multiple personality syndrome, is a mental disorder characterized by the presence of at least two distinct and relatively enduring personality states. ''MPD Psycho'' (full title ''Multiple Personality Detective Psycho – Kazuhiko Amamiya Returns'') is a 2000 Japanese six-episode horror crime television series based on the manga of the same name and directed by Takashi Miike. It has a surrealist bent, and, according to Jim Harper, the author of ''Flowers from Hell'', "bears little similarity to the average made-for-TV detective thriller".
