Moying Martelino
Mauricio "Moying" Martelino (March 21, 1935 – September 22, 2021) was a Filipino sports executive who was involved in bowling, basketball, and volleyball. He was secretary general of the Asian Basketball Confederation from 1991 to 1998. Background Mauricio Martelino was part of the Philippine Bowling Congress in the 1970s as its secretary general. He played bowling himself and was a regular at the old Bowling Inn in Taft Avenue, which was near his residence in Malate. His brother-in-law Gonzalo Puyat II convinced him to move to the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP), where Martelino also served as its secretary general. Martelino also oversaw the 1978 FIBA World Championship as its executive director. He was also a commissioner of the Philippine Amateur Basketball League in its early years. Philippine Basketball League
The Philippine Basketball League (PBL) was a commercial semi-professional basketball league in the Philippines. The league was composed of several commercial teams with several collegiate and provincial stars. History The PBL was formed on May 6, 1983, a brainchild of San Miguel Corporation chairman Danding Cojuangco, under its original name the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). It was the successor of the defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), which folded during the early-1980s. During the inaugural PABL tournament, 37 teams divided into four divisions from collegiate and commercial ranks participated in the tournament that was played in the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas () or the SBP is the national sport association for basketball in the Philippines, formed from the merging of the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) and Pilipinas Basketball (PB). It was formed in order to fix a long running feud in Philippine Basketball that resulted in FIBA suspending the country from participating in FIBA-sanctioned events. Both groups signed a joint communique during the FIBA Congress in Saitama, Japan in September 2006. Manuel V. The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is a women's professional volleyball league in the Philippines organized by Sports Vision Management Group, Inc. The league began in 2004 as the Shakey's V-League, a women's collegiate league. Since 2011, the league became open to participation of corporate clubs and other non-collegiate teams. The Spikers' Turf has served as the men's counterpart of the league. Michael Edward Marcos Keon (born September 22, 1954) is a Filipino politician. Keon is the son of Australian journalist Michael James Keon and Elizabeth E. Marcos-Keon, governor of Ilocos Norte from 1971 to 1983 and the nephew of former Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos. His mother, the first female vice-governor and governor of Ilocos Norte, was the sister of former Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos. Project Gintong Alay or Gintong Alay () was a national sports program of the Philippine government launched under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos. History Establishment In Letter of Instructions No. 955 dated October 31, 1979, primarily issued to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Philippine Olympic Committee, President Ferdinand Marcos instructed the creation of a national sports program to develop track and field athletes. On November 8, 1979, Marcos issued Proclamation No. 1922 which authorized Gintong Alay to conduct an educational and fund campaign to aid in the generation of funds for the project and on May 2, 1980, to expand the scope of the project to include 17 other sports. The Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) was the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) recognized national governing body for basketball in the Philippines.
