Mount Stuart (Queensland)
Mount Stuart is a mountain in the locality of Mount Stuart in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. It overlooks Townsville with an elevation of 584 metres. It was named for Clarendon Stuart (1833–1912), from 1859 Townsville's first district surveyor. Mount Stuart is used for commercial and ABC Queensland television transmission, it was also used as a Bureau of Meteorology radar station until late 2011, where it was moved to Hervey Range. Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. Mount Stuart is a locality in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Mount Stuart had no population. Geography The Ross River forms the western boundary of the locality. The Ross River Dam is at the south-west of the locality which forms Lake Ross which is the south-western boundary of the locality. The terrain is mountainous rising to the peak of Mount Stuart (584 metres) (). There is a lookout at the top of the mountain with views over the Townsville area. It is accessed via the Mount Stuart Road which commences at Stuart Drive in neighbouring Roseneath. As at November 2018, the locality is otherwise undeveloped. Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance ('' ranging''), angle, and radial velocity of objects relative to the site. Lavarack Barracks
Lavarack Barracks is a major Australian Army base located in Townsville, Queensland. Lavarack Barracks is currently home to the Army's 3rd Brigade and 11th Brigade. Elements of the 3rd Brigade based at the Barracks include the Combat Signals Regiment, 3rd Combat Services Support Battalion, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment and the 2nd Cavalry Regiment. The 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (2 RAR) is an amphibious light infantry battalion of the Australian Army part of the 1st Division Amphibious Task Group based at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville. 2 RAR was initially formed as the Australian 66th Battalion in 1945 as part of the 34th Brigade (Australia) and since then it has seen active service during the Korean War, Malayan Emergency and Vietnam War.
