Moorland
Moorland or moor is a type of habitat found in upland areas in temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands and montane grasslands and shrublands biomes, characterised by low-growing vegetation on acidic soils. Moorland, nowadays, generally means uncultivated hill land (such as Dartmoor in South West England), but also includes low-lying wetlands (such as Sedgemoor, also South West England). It is closely related to heath, although experts disagree on what precisely distinguishes these types of vegetation. Generally, moor refers to highland and high rainfall zones, whereas heath refers to lowland zones which are more likely to be the result of human activity. Moorland habitats mostly occur in tropical Africa, northern and western Europe, and neotropical South America. Most of the world's moorlands are diverse ecosystems. Wyman Moor
Wyman Bradbury Seavy Moor (November 11, 1811March 10, 1869) was an American politician and lawyer from the U.S. state of Maine. His political career, interspersed with periods in private law practice, began with his service in the Maine House of Representatives, and continued when he became Maine Attorney General. Moor married Clara Ann Niel Cook (b. 1813 in Waterville, Maine) in 1834. She was a descendant of Thomas Dudley, one of the Governors of Massachusetts Bay Colony. Moor was appointed as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of John Fairfield. William Moor
William Moor (died 1765) was a British sailor and explorer associated with the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) and the annual supply ships to the bay area. Moor was involved, under the supervision of his cousin, Christopher Middleton, with voyages to the bay from about 1730 to 1741 and carried out increasingly important duties during that period. In 1741 he and Middleton left the HBC's employ and Moor was given command of to aid his cousin in in a search for the Northwest Passage. They overwintered at Prince of Wales Fort where sickness plagued the crews. Their survey of the shoreline and tides of the west side of Hudson Bay was not particularly successful. Moor and Middleton and the 1741–1742 expedition were under the scrutiny of Arthur Dobbs, an opponent of the HBC monopoly of the bay area. Paul Moor (born 3 September 1978), of Kingston-upon-Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England is one of the world's leading ten-pin bowlers. He bowls on the European Bowling Tour (EBT) and has been a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) for several years. Early years Moor first started bowling at the age of 10 when he joined the Saturday morning Junior League at the AMF Bowling Centre in Hull. His parents were league bowlers at the centre which was the main influence for him taking up the sport. He enjoyed plenty of success in his latter years as a junior, winning many national titles. Karl Vital Moor (11 December 1852 – 14 June 1932) was a Swiss communist, and a channel for German financing of the 19th-century European Bolshevik movement. He was born in Fribourg, the illegitimate son of Swiss citizen Mary Moor, of Vordemwald, and the Swiss aristocrat Ernest de Stoeklin, of Fribourg. Moor studied at universities in both Switzerland and Germany. In the 1870s his passion for the ideas of socialism led him to take part in the work of the banned Social Democratic Party of Germany. In the spring of 1881 he was expelled from Bavaria and moved to Basel. There he became one of the eminent functionaries of Swiss social democracy.
