Monterey Bay Football Club is an American professional soccer team based in Monterey County, California. The club was established on February 21, 2021, and is a member of the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer league system. It began playing during the 2022 USL Championship season as a member of the league's Western Conference. History Former Monterey Bay teams The Monterey Bay had its first professional team in 1993 when Santa Cruz Surf joined the USISL. The team would only last through the 1994 season, but professional soccer's absence would not last long as the Monterey Bay Jaguars were established for the 1995 season. The following season the Jaguars would change the location in their name to "California" and have their most successful season, defeating the Richmond Kickers 2-1 to win the USISL Select League Championship. Cardinale Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium on the campus of California State University, Monterey Bay in Seaside, California. It is the home of Monterey Bay FC of the USL Championship. 2022 Monterey Bay FC Season
The 2022 Monterey Bay FC season was the club's first season since their establishment on February 1, 2021. The club made its league debut in the USL Championship as well as its domestic cup debut in the U.S. Open Cup. Background Monterey Bay FC was established on February 1, 2021, as the result of owner Ray Beshoff retaining USL Championship franchise rights from Fresno FC which folded in 2019. Frank Yallop was initially announced as the team's sporting director on February 1, and on April 12, 2021, he named Ramiro Corrales to the role of Technical Advisor. California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB or Cal State Monterey Bay) is a public university in Monterey County, California. Walmer Osmar Gómez Martínez (born 17 August 1998) is a professional footballer who plays for USL Championship club Monterey Bay FC. Born in the United States, he represents the El Salvador national team. Monterey Bay is a bay of the Pacific Ocean located on the coast of the U.S. state of California, south of the San Francisco Bay Area and its major city at the south of the bay, San Jose.
