Mohamed Abdennour (Ptit Moh)
Mohamed Abdennour (stage name Ptit Moh) is an Algerian composer, arranger and instrumentalist, active in France and playing a fusion of different musical forms mixed with chaabi. Early life He has been called a virtuoso on the Algerian mandole or ''mondol'', "one of most gifted on this instrument very present in the Châabi music." In France he has worked with other artists including, providing background music or participating in their bands, as well as arranging music for film and theater. The bands he has played with have played a wide mixture of music, including rap, ragga, reggae, jazz and raï. In addition to showing what the mondol can do, he also has showed the capabilities of other stringed instruments used in North Africa, including the banjo, oud, mandolin, sintir, guitar and laúd. Mondol
The Algerian mandole (mandol, mondol) is a steel-string fretted instrument resembling an elongated mandolin, widely used in Algerian music such as Chaabi, Kabyle music and Nuubaat (Andalusian classical music). The name can cause confusion, as "mandole" is a French word for mandola, the instrument from which the Algerian mandole developed. The Algerian mandole is not however a mandola, but a mandocello sized instrument. The instrument has also been called a "mandoluth" when describing the instrument played by the Algerian-French musician, Hakim Hamadouche. Hamid Cheriet ( kab, Ḥamid Ceryat; 25 October 1949 – 2 May 2020), better known by his stage name Idir, was an Algerian Kabyle singer-songwriter and musician. Referred to as the "King of Amazigh music", he is regarded as one of the more significant modern day figures in Algerian and Amazigh culture, history, and struggle. Along with musicians like Ferhat Mehenni and Lounis Aït Menguellet, Idir helped popularize Raï folk music.
