Miss Korea
Miss Korea ( ko, 미스코리아) is a national beauty pageant in South Korea. Lee Seung-hyeon won the title on October 26, 2022. History The first Miss Korea competition took place in 1957 and was sponsored by the Korean newspaper Hankook Ilbo. Each year, approximately fifty women compete in Seoul, South Korea, and seven are selected by a panel of judges. The winner "Jin" (진) is crowned as the official Miss Korea. Additionally, there are two "Sun" (선) finalists (equivalent to 1st runners-up), who go on to compete in Miss International or Miss Earth. Lastly, four "Mi" (미) finalists (equivalent to semi-finalists) are chosen. On March 16, 2011, the president of the Miss World Organization, Julia Morley, announced the newly launched Miss World Korea pageant. Until 2010, Miss Korea would also select the representative to Miss World, but starting with Miss World 2011, a separate competition has been held to choose the contestant who will represent Korea. Beauty Pageant
A beauty pageant is a competition that has traditionally focused on judging and ranking the physical attributes of the contestants. Pageants have now evolved to include inner beauty, with criteria covering judging of personality, intelligence, talent, character, and charitable involvement, through private interviews with judges and answers to public on-stage questions. The term beauty pageant refers originally to the Big Four international beauty pageants. Pageant titles are subdivided into Miss, Mrs. or Ms., and Teen – to clearly identify the difference between pageant divisions. Hundreds and thousands of beauty contests are held annually, but the Big Four are considered the most prestigious, widely covered and broadcast by media. Jang Yoon-jeong (Miss Korea)
Jang Yoon-jeong (born August 16, 1970) is a South Korean actress, TV Host and beauty queen who was named Miss Korea in 1987. She represented South Korea and was the first runner-up of the Miss Universe 1988 beauty contest. Porntip Nakhirunkanok was the winner of the competition. Miss Universe 1988 After the preliminaries, Jang Yoon-jeong was the highest-placed Asian delegate who ranked third behind the US and Dominican Republic. During the actual pageant, she placed 1st runner-up (second place) behind Thailand's Bui Simon. At the time of the Miss Universe 1988 pageant, she was a high school student studying dance. Korea has never won Miss Universe. Jang is the closest a Korean woman has come to winning since debuting in 1954. Keum Na-na
Keum Nana (금나나, born 19 August 1983) is the winner of Miss Korea 2002. She participated in the Miss Universe pageant in 2003. She attended but dropped out of Kyungpook National University School of Medicine in pursuit of undergraduate studies at Harvard University. She graduated from Harvard University in 2008, where she majored in Biochemistry. She then earned her master's degree in nutritional science at Columbia University while preparing her U.S. medical school applications. Nana Keum graduated from Harvard's TH Chan School of Public Health with a dual-doctorate in nutrition and epidemiology in 2015.
