Misericordia University
Misericordia University is a private Roman Catholic university in Dallas, Pennsylvania. It was founded by the Religious Sisters of Mercy in 1924 as College Misericordia; in 2007 it became a university and changed its name. The university offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees as well as post-master's and post-bachelor's certificates. The banner of Misericordia (Mercy) is a work of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí projected for the procession to the Sanctuary of Misericordia in Reus of the reusians residing in Barcelona as one of the acts for the 1900 Holy Year. It is known by the two front and back photographs published in the ''Semanario Católico de Reus'' (Reus Catholic Weekly magazine) in July of that year. It included another photograph of the procession in which Gaudí is seen as part of a large group of pilgrims and the banner being carried by one of them. A previous issue of the same publication contains a description with references to the materials with which it was built. The banner remained in the sanctuary until July 1936, when it was destroyed in the events of the Spanish Civil War. The Misericordia Community Hospital is an acute care hospital located in west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Misericordia is home to the Institute for Reconstructive Sciences in Medicine (iRSM), a facility for reconstruction of the face, head and neck. The original Misericordia Hospital was established in 1900 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Misericorde, a religious congregation dedicated to nursing the poor and unwed mothers. The Third Sunday of Easter is the day that occurs two weeks after the Christian celebration of Easter. Western Christianity In the historical Roman Rite of the Catholic Church, this day was officially known as the Second Sunday after Easter. It was also nicknamed Misericordia Sunday and Good Shepherd Sunday. The "Misericordia Sunday" designation was due to the incipit ("Misericórdia Dómini") of the introit assigned to this day's liturgy.
