Milan–Bologna High-speed Railway
The Milan–Bologna high-speed railway is a railway line that links the cities of Milan and Bologna, part of the Italian high-speed rail network. It runs parallel to the historical north–south railway between Milan and Bologna, which itself follows the ancient Roman Road, the Via Aemilia. The new railway follows the Autostrada A1 closely for much of its length. The new line allows faster traffic to run separated and increase the overall railway capacity between the two cities. The line is part of Corridor 1 of the European Union's Trans-European high-speed rail network, which connects Berlin to Palermo. The line is long from the Milano Centrale to Bologna Centrale station, with trains taking about 1 hour and 5 minutes to cover the distance. The first section of the line on the outskirts of Milan was opened in 1997. Milano Greco Pirelli railway station ( it, Stazione di Milano Greco Pirelli) is one of the main stations serving the ''comune'' of Milan. Opened in 1914, it is in the north of the city, in the ''quartiere'' of Greco. It is on the Milan–Monza railway. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). Lambro
The Lambro ( lmo, Lamber or ''Lambar'' ) is a river of Lombardy, northern Italy, a left tributary of the Po. The Lambro rises from the Monte San Primo, elevation , near the Ghisallo, in the province of Como, not far from Lake Como. After Magreglio it flows through the Valassina and the ''comuni'' of Asso, Ponte Lambro and Erba, entering Lake Pusiano with the name of ''Lambrone''. The Lambro passes through Brianza reaching Monza and crossing its famous park (where king Umberto I was assassinated by Gaetano Bresci) in two branches which join again before the river passes through the eastern part of Milan. The Autostrada A1, nicknamed ''Autostrada del Sole'' ("Sun Motorway"), is the oldest European Highway and the most important in Italy. The highway links the largest cities on the Tyrrhenian side of Italy: Milan, Bologna, Florence, Rome and Naples. At 754 km, it is the longest Italian autostrada, running parallel to ''Autostrada Adriatica'' A14. It is a part of the E35 and E45 European routes. The A1 reduced travel time between Milan and Naples from two days to just seven to eight hours. The mountain crossing from Bologna to Florence is known as Variante di Valico.
