Mike Hennessey
Mike Hennessey (25 February 1928 – 16 August 2017) was an English music journalist and jazz pianist. Born in London as the third of four children, Hennessey, who came from a musical family, began learning piano at the age of six. After his military service, he began working as a journalist. He wrote for jazz magazines in Europe and North America and worked for 27 years as a correspondent and international editor for the US magazine ''Billboard'', before retiring in 1994. He specialised in international copyright and intellectual property, and advocated strengthening of copyright protection for the music industry. He co-founded ''Music Week'' and ''Music & Media'' and wrote biographies of jazz musicians Kenny Clarke and Johnny Griffin. As a pianist he was a member of Chas Burchell's band, with which he recorded two albums. Nathan Davis (saxophonist)
Nathan Tate Davis (February 15, 1937 – April 8, 2018) was an American jazz multi-instrumentalist who played the tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute. He is known for his work with Eric Dolphy, Kenny Clarke, Ray Charles, Slide Hampton and Art Blakey. Career Davis traveled extensively around Europe after World War II and moved to Paris in 1962. He held a Ph.D in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University and was a professor of music and director of jazz studies at the University of Pittsburgh from 1969, an academic program that he helped initiate. He was also founder and director of the University of Pittsburgh Annual Jazz Seminar and Concert, the first academic jazz event of its kind in the United States. Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Duško Gojković
Duško Gojković ( sr-Cyrl, Душко Гојковић; born 14 October 1931) is a Serbian and Yugoslav jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger. Biography Gojković was born in Jajce (ex-Yugoslavia, now in Bosnia-Herzegovina). He studied at the Belgrade Music Academy from 1948 to 1953. He played trumpet in dixieland bands and joined the big band of Radio Belgrade when he was eighteen. He moved to West Germany and first recorded as a member of the Frankfurt Allstars in 1956. He spent the next four years as a member of Kurt Edelhagen's orchestra. In these years, Gojković played with Chet Baker, Stan Getz, and Oscar Pettiford. In 1958, he performed at Newport Jazz Festival and drew attention on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1961, Gojkovic received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, where he studied with Herb Pomeroy.
