Middlesboro High School
Middlesboro High School (proper name, Middlesborough Senior High School) is a public high school in Middlesboro, Kentucky, United States one of three schools operated by Middlesboro Independent Schools History Middlesboro High School has been educating students for over 120 years. The first class of seniors graduated in 1894 just four years after the founding of Middlesboro in 1890. There is very little historical information remaining concerning Middlesboro's early educational institutes. In his 1943 book, "The History of Bell County" Henry Harvey Fuson (transcribed by C. Richard Mathews) offers some insight into those early years. He writes: "The first school in Middlesborough was a private school taught by Ezra L. Grubb, a graduate of Centre College. It was opened December 9, 1889, over Charles Whitaker's store on East Cumberland Avenue. Mr. Grubb was assisted by Mrs. Maggie Chumley and Miss Cora Morris, who taught music and painting." "Illinois Loyalty", also known as "We're Loyal to You, Illinois" or just "Loyalty", is a song associated with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. It (along with " Hail to the Orange") is the school's alma mater. It is also used (although not as often as Oskee Wow-Wow) as the school's fight song. History Thacher Howland Guild came to the University of Illinois from Brown University in September 1904 as an instructor of rhetoric. He brought an unfinished song that he intended to be used at a college. Guild spent his next year at the university working on the first part of what would become "The Illinois Loyalty Song" and also joined the Marching Illini in the cornet section, where he met Albert Austin Harding, a student recently promoted to director of bands. Susan Kingsley (Susan Cardwell Hurt)
Susan Kingsley was an American actress, with roles in films such as Popeye (1980), Steel (1979) and Coal Miner's Daughter (1980). Early life and education Kingsley studied drama at the University of Kentucky and at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Career Kingsley was a member of Actors Theatre of Louisville, where she appeared in the main role of Marsha Norman's play Getting Out. She also played the role of Marshael Foster in the Broadway play ''The Wake of Jamey Foster'' in October 1982. Kingsley appeared in films including Coal Miner's Daughter, Popeye, Reckless, Steel, Old Enough, Sunshine On the Way, and The Dollmaker. Death On February 6, 1984, as Kingsley was returning to Louisville, Kentucky in order to rehearse a play at Actors Theater, after a vacation in Florida, she was involved in an automobile accident near Commerce, Georgia. The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national student organization created to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as business education. The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States and outlying territories, which consists of many chapters in high schools. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship (academic achievement), leadership, service, and character. Key Club International, also called Key Club, is an international service organization for high school students. As a student-led organization, Key Club's goal is to encourage leadership through serving others. Key Club International is the high school branch of the Kiwanis International family, classifying as a Service Leadership Program and more specifically as a Kiwanis Youth Program.
