Mick Greenwood
Mick Greenwood is an English-born, American-raised singer/songwriter and producer. Greenwood was discovered at New York's The Bitter End by the legendary John Hammond of Columbia Records. Signed to MCA Records worldwide in 1971, his debut album ''Living Game'' was recorded at Sound Techniques and CBS Studios in London, and received great acclaim. Mick and his band toured the US in the 1970s, The 1972 tour band included Jerry Donahue, Barry de Souza, Tony Cox and Dave Peacock, who returned to the UK. Mick went on to make his second album for MCA Records ''To Friends'', followed by a third for Warner Brothers Records entitled ''Midnight Dreamer'' which he produced with his engineer Vic Gamm. The Bitter End
The Bitter End is a 230-person capacity nightclub, coffeehouse and folk music venue in New York City's Greenwich Village. It opened in 1961 at 147 Bleecker Street under the auspices of owner Fred Weintraub. The club changed its name to ''The Other End'' in June 1975. However, after a few years the owners changed the club's name back to the more recognizable The Bitter End. It remains open under new ownership. John Hammond (producer)
John Henry Hammond II (December 15, 1910 – July 10, 1987) was an American record producer, civil rights activist, and music critic active from the 1930s to the early 1980s. In his service as a talent scout, Hammond became one of the most influential figures in 20th-century popular music. He is the father of blues musician John P. Hammond. MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. Hot Tuna
Hot Tuna is an American blues rock band formed in 1969 by former Jefferson Airplane members Jorma Kaukonen (guitarist/vocals) and Jack Casady (bassist). Although it has always been a fluid aggregation, with musicians coming and going over the years, the band's center has always been Kaukonen and Casady's ongoing collaboration. History 1969–1973: beginnings Hot Tuna began as a side project to Jefferson Airplane, intended to mark time while Grace Slick recovered from vocal cord nodule surgery that had left her unable to perform. The Byrds
The Byrds () were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1964. The band underwent multiple lineup changes throughout its existence, with frontman Roger McGuinn (known as Jim McGuinn until mid-1967) remaining the sole consistent member. Although their time as one of the most popular groups in the world only lasted for a short period in the mid-1960s, the Byrds are today considered by critics to be among the most influential rock acts of their era. Jerry Donahue
Jerry Donahue (born September 24, 1946, Manhattan, New York City) is an American guitarist and producer primarily known for his work in the British folk rock scene as a member of Fotheringay and Fairport Convention as well as being a member of the rock guitar trio The Hellecasters. Biography Donahue was born in New York, the son of big band saxophonist Sam Donahue and actress Patricia Donahue and grew up in Los Angeles. Encouraged by his parents, Donahue took classical guitar lessons as a child, but it was Gerry McGee (who later joined The Ventures) who made the biggest impression on him, when the 14-year-old Donahue witnessed him playing a behind-the-nut bend at a performance at the ''Sea Witch'', emulating Earl Scruggs' banjo technique. Tony Cox (record Producer)
Tony Cox is a British record producer and arranger. As such he was influential in late 1960s and 1970s folk rock developments and the fledgling progressive rock scene, and has since worked primarily as a composer and orchestrator. Career He entered the music business as a performer in 1966, and as a duo with Douglas MacRae-Brown released ''The Young Idea'' LP in 1967, and had a UK top ten hit single with a cover version of the Lennon-McCartney song "With a Little Help from My Friends". (The album was re-issued on CD in 2009 with previously unreleased tracks.) He continued performing in the studio with various acts he produced such as Trees and Mick Softley. Dave Peacock (musician)
David Victor Peacock (born 24 May 1945) is an English musician and bass guitarist. He was brought up in Ponders End and the Freezywater areas of Enfield. Peacock is best known as having been one half of the English musical duo Chas & Dave between 1974 and the death of Chas Hodges in 2018. Career Earlier in his career in the 1960s, Peacock was in a group called the Rolling Stones (formed in 1960 before the more famous one), as well as The Tumbleweeds, and worked with Mick Greenwood and Jerry Donahue. He met Chas Hodges in 1963 when he and his friend gave Hodges a lift home, and became friends when they found they had similar taste in music. Later in the late 1960s they became part of a group called Black Claw together with Harvey Hinsley and Mick Burt, and recorded tracks with Albert Lee. Gerry Conway (musician)
Gerald Conway (born 11 September 1947) is an English folk and rock drummer/percussionist, best known for having performed with the backing band for Cat Stevens in the 1970s, Jethro Tull during the 1980s, and a member of Fairport Convention from 1998 to 2022, alongside various side projects. Conway has done a considerable amount of work as a session musician. Conway is married to vocalist Jacqui McShee, who is the singer of Pentangle, a band Conway is also a member of. William Murray (musician)
William Murray (died 1998) was a drummer and photographer from Glasgow, Scotland. Career As a drummer in the early 1970s Murray played with acts including Richard and Linda Thompson's 'Sour Grapes' band and Irish progressive folk band Mellow Candle. In the 1970s Murray acted as drummer on Kevin Ayers's album '' Whatevershebringswesing'' and he later worked with Paul Kossoff. As a musician Murray also worked with the British multi-instrumentalist, Mike Oldfield, who bought Murray a camera. Murray worked with Oldfield on albums such as ''Ommadawn'', writing the lyrics for " On Horseback". Murray became a fashion photographer and moved to Dallas, Texas, United States.
