Michel Vaucaire
Michel Vaucaire (born 3 August 1904 in Brissago, Switzerland; died 18 June 1980 in Saint-Denis) was a French lyricist. He often collaborated with the composer Charles Dumont in whom he always had confidence to put his lyrics to music. He is perhaps best known as the author of " Non, je ne regrette rien" ("No, I regret nothing"), written in 1956, with its most notable recording completed in 1960 by singer Edith Piaf. Dumont tells in the book ''Édith Piaf, Opinions publiques'', by Bernard Marchois (TF1 Editions 1995), that Vaucaire's original title was "Non, je ne trouverai rien" (No, I will not find anything) and that the song was meant for the popular French singer Rosalie Dubois. But, thinking of Édith, he changed the title to "Non, je ne regrette rien" (No, I Regret Nothing). Brissago
Brissago () is a municipality in the district of Locarno in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Brissago lies on the western shore of Lake Maggiore and includes the Brissago Islands. History An ax and ceramic pieces from the Neolithic era as well as Roman coins and other finds, discovered in 1846 in Brenscino, indicate that the area was prehistorically settled. In 1863, during the construction of the main road, some graves were discovered. Fragments of a grave stele with inscriptions were built into the (now destroyed) Church of San Pancrazio on Isola Grande. Brissago is first mentioned in 1289 as ''Brixago''. 1st Foreign Parachute Regiment
The 1st Foreign Parachute Regiment (french: 1er Régiment Etranger de Parachutistes, 1er REP) was an airborne regiment of the Foreign Legion in the French Army which dated its origins to 1948. The regiment fought in the First Indochina War as the three-time reconstituted 1st Foreign Parachute Battalion, the Suez Crisis and Algerian War, but was dissolved along with the 10th Parachute Division and 25th Parachute Division following the generals' putsch against part of the French government in 1961.
