Michel Matte
Michel Matte (born 12 December 1949) is a Canadian politician. Matte was elected to represent the riding of Portneuf in the National Assembly of Quebec in the 2008 provincial election. He is a member of the Quebec Liberal Party. Matte obtained a bachelor's degree in physical education from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and a master's degree in arts from Laval University. He worked for 23 years at the Grand-Bois and Portneuf School Boards before being elected as mayor of Saint-Marc-des-Carrières in 1997. He was also the prefect for the Portneuf Regional County Municipality Portneuf is a regional county municipality (RCM) in the Capitale-Nationale administrative region of Quebec, Canada. Saint-Alban, Quebec
Saint-Alban is a municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. The place is known for its caves and crevices, and the gorge of the Sainte-Anne River. The "gorge" sector of the Sainte-Anne River is famous for its rock climbing walls. History The first settlers, coming from Saint-Ambroise-de-la-Jeune-Lorette, Deschambault, Grondines, and Sainte-Anne-de-la-Perade, began clearing the area around 1830. In 1851, a mill was built that led to the development of the village. In 1856, the parish was founded, followed by the post office in 1857, and the parish municipality in 1860. 2008 Quebec General Election
The 2008 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on December 8, 2008. The Quebec Liberal Party, under incumbent Premier Jean Charest, was re-elected with a majority government, marking the first time since the 1950s (when the Union Nationale of Maurice Duplessis won four consecutive elections) that a party or leader was elected to a third consecutive mandate, and the first time for the Liberals since the 1930s, when Louis-Alexandre Taschereau was Premier. The 2008 election also marked the first time that Québec solidaire won a seat. Issues Charest called the election on November 5, saying he needed a "clear mandate" and a majority to handle the economic storm.
