Michalis Vlachos
Michalis Vlachos ( gr, Μιχάλης Βλάχος; born 20 September 1967) is a Greek former professional footballer who played as a defender. Vlachos began his career with Apollon Smyrnis, where he was called up for a debut with the Greece national football team in 1989. He later represented both Olympiakos and AEK, they winning the Greek championship with the latter. During the 1994–95 season, Vlachos appeared for AEK in the UEFA Champions League, scoring in a 1–3 loss to Casino Salzburg in the group stage. In 1998, Vlachos joined English First Division club Portsmouth, for whom he made over 50 league appearances as a midfielder and sweeper in two years. He joined Walsall in February 2000, making 12 appearances for the club prior to relegation in May of the same year. Vlachos returned to Greece in the summer of 2000, joining Ionikos. A.E.K ( el, AEK , formally Αθλητική Ένωσις Κωνσταντινουπόλεως; Athlitikí Énosis Konstantinoupόleos, ''Athletic Union of Constantinople''), known as A.E.K, is a major Greek multi-sport club based in Nea Filadelfeia, Athens. 1996–97 Greek Football Cup
The 1996–97 Greek Football Cup was the 55th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 72 teams participated, 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 36 from Gamma. It was held in 7 rounds, included final. After 8 years the phase of groups was suppressed, while the teams of Alpha Ethniki would enter in the competition in the Round of 32. The Round of 16 was very interesting. Olympiacos eliminated PAOK and Panathinaikos eliminated Iraklis. Also, Ionikos tipped OFI with 7 goals. For third time in the 4 last years AEK Athens and Panathinaikos were pondered over in the Final, held in Karaiskakis Stadium. AEK Athens won on the penalty shootout. The loss of Cup for Panathinaikos, in combination with their mediocre course in the championship, meant the unique time at the last 25 years that the club did not participate in any European competition. The 1995–96 Greek Football Cup was the 54th edition of the Greek Football Cup. Tournament details Totally 72 teams participated, 18 from Alpha Ethniki, 18 from Beta, and 36 from Gamma. It was held in 6 rounds, included final. AEK Athens won the cup after 13 years, shattering in the Final 7–1 Apollon Athens, that reached for first and only time a Greek Cup Final. It was also the last title, after 4 championships, that was achieved by AEK Athens, with Dušan Bajević as their coach. After the Group stage, AEK Athens eliminated in succession Iraklis, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Athinaikos, while in a big surprise Apollon Athens qualified in semi-finals against PAOK, with 3–1 in Toumba Stadium.
