Michael New
Michael New (born November 10, 1975) is an American political scientist, a visiting associate professor at the Catholic University of America, and an associate scholar with the Charlotte Lozier Institute. New's research has focused on legislation that restricts abortion. Anti-abortion groups have cited New's research to argue for the effectiveness of various types of state level laws restricting abortion rights, including informed consent laws, parental involvement laws, and public funding restrictions. New's research has also been used to validate Presidential platforms for and against abortion restrictions. Anti-abortion groups have used his research to encourage Rudy Giuliani to support abortion restrictions, and to challenge claims by Howard Dean. New's secondary research is on tax-limitation amendments, such as Colorado's Taxpayer Bill of Rights. The Witherspoon Institute is a conservative think tank in Princeton, New Jersey. The Institute was founded in 2003 by Princeton University professor and conservative Robert P. George, Luis Tellez, and others involved with the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. Named after John Witherspoon, one of the signers of the United States Declaration of Independence, the institute's fellows include Harold James, John Joseph Haldane, and James R. ''Alta Velocidad Española'' (''AVE'') is a service of high-speed rail in Spain operated by Renfe, the Spanish national railway company, at speeds of up to . As of December 2021, the Spanish high-speed rail network, on part of which the AVE service runs, is the longest HSR network in Europe with and the second longest in the world, after China's. AVE trains run on a network of high-speed rail track owned and managed by ADIF (''Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias''), where other high speed (, Alvia, Avlo) and mid-speed ( Altaria) services also operate. The first line was opened in 1992, connecting the cities of Madrid, Córdoba and Seville. Unlike the rest of the Iberian broad gauge network, the AVE uses standard gauge.
