Michael Burke (New South Wales Colonial Politician)
Michael Burke (11 October 1843 – 21 March 1909) was an Australian politician. He was born at Tamworth to shepherd Thomas Burke and Margaret Dwyer. He was a carpenter and possibly a policeman before entering politics. On 20 September 1866 he married Catherine Agnes Leahy, with whom he had six children (one of these was Frank Burke, later Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly). In 1885 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. Mike Burke (born June 14, 1974) is an American professional strongman competitor from Aurora, Colorado. Mike won the 2012 All-American Strongman Challenge in January 2012. This victory qualified him for the 2012 Arnold Strongman Classic and he finished in 5th place. Burke placed third at the Giants Live event in Melbourne, Australia on March 17, 2012. This placing qualified Burke for the 2012 World's Strongest Man contest, however, he failed to make the finals. Just one day after the 2012 World's Strongest Man contest, Burke competed in the 2012 America's Strongest Man contest and took first place. Michael Burke ( ga, Mícheál de Búrca or ; – 6 July 1881) was an Irish poet. Biography Born sometime about 1800 in the townland of Bresk, parish of Kiltullagh, four miles east of Athenry town, Burke was educated at the nearby Dominican College at Esker. In time he became schoolmaster at Esker National School, hence his nickname,''The Schoolmaster of Esker''. Writing in 2018, Martyn said of him: Many details of his early life remain unknown. The only man of the name documented in the 1821 census is thirty-two year old Michael Burke, his twenty-six year old wife, Mary, and their two year old daughter, Mary; but Michael is listed as a "Farmer & Labourer" (Mary a "Flax spinner") and resided at "Careenlea, Kiltullagh". Therefore, identifying him with Micheál de Búrc is problematic. Michael Burke, 10th Earl of Clanricarde (; ; 1686–1736), styled Lord Dunkellin (; ) until 1722, was an Irish peer who was Governor of Galway (1712) and a Privy Counsellor in Ireland (1726). Career He was the son of John Burke, 9th Earl of Clanricarde and educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. He was appointed Governor of Galway in 1712 and invested as a Privy Counsellor in Ireland on 15 July 1726. On his death he was buried in Christchurch, Dublin. Family He married Anne, the daughter of Speaker John Smith and the widow of Hugh Parker, who after her death in 1732 was buried in the nave of Westminster Abbey. Michael Burke (born February 25, 1977) is a retired American soccer player. Career College and Amateur Burke attended Loyola University Maryland, playing two seasons of college soccer. In 1997, he left college early for personal reasons. His professional soccer career started in his hometown of Jacksonville, FL. He spent time with Deportivo Cali in Colombia and Nottingham Forest in England. Professional Burke began his professional career in 1998 when he signed with the Jacksonville Cyclones of the A-League. Late in the season, Michael Burke asked to be released to pursue other teams. After Burke sat out for a week of training, the club agreed to trade him to the Charleston Battery and Burke was named the 1998 USL A-League Rookie of the Year.
