Mevlüt Uysal
Mevlüt Uysal (born 1966, Alanya) is a Turkish politician and lawyer who was the mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality from September 2017 to April 2019. After completing the primary and middle school in Antalya, he studied law at Istanbul University and graduated in 1988. Uysal worked as a freelance lawyer and has been engaged in active politics. He co-founded the district organization of Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul Province. Following the merger of Bahçeşehir and Başakşehir neighborhoods forming the Başakşehir district, he was elected district mayor of Başakşehir in the 2009 local elections on March 29. He was re-elected in the 2014 local elections. 2014 Turkish Local Elections
Local elections (formal: local authority general elections, Turkish: ''Mahalli İdareler Genel Seçimi'' or simply ''Yerel Seçimleri'') were held in Turkey on 30 March 2014, with some repeated on 1 June 2014. Metropolitan and district mayors as well as their municipal council members in cities, and muhtars and "elderly councils" in rural areas (and also in mahalles within urban areas) were elected. In light of the controversy around the elections, it was viewed as a referendum on the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. About 50 million people were eligible to vote. A local government re-organisation took place before the election, lowering the total number of elected officials from 38,592 to 23,132. Almost 1,500 (small municipal towns) had their municipalities abolished, meaning that a significantly fewer number of mayors were elected compared to the 2009 local elections. NTV (Turkey)
NTV is a Turkish nationwide television news channel owned by Doğuş Media Group. It was partnered with MSNBC between May 2000 and 2014. Besides domestic and international news, the channel's programming includes documentaries, as well as programs on finance, arts and culture, lifestyle, and sports. History NTV was founded in 1996 as a subsidiary of Cavit Çağlar's Nergis Group (hence the original full name of Nergis TV) and as the first news channel of Turkey. 2009 Turkish Local Elections
Local elections were held in Turkey on 29 March 2009. The overall winner was the ruling party Justice and Development Party (Turkey), Justice and Development Party, although the party saw a decline in its vote relative to the 2007 Turkish general election, 2007 general election. The leading opposition party, the social democratic Kemalist Republican People's Party, CHP, increased its vote share, as did a number of smaller parties including the Felicity Party, SP, Democratic Society Party, DTP and Great Union Party, BBP, whose party leader Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu had died in a 2009 Medair TC-HEK helicopter crash, helicopter crash four days before the election. Kadir Topbaş (8 January 1945 – 13 February 2021) was a Turkish architect, businessperson and politician who served as Mayor of Istanbul from 2004 to 2017. Biography He was born on 8 January 1945 in Altıparmak village of Yusufeli district in Artvin Province. Kadir Topbaş moved to Istanbul in 1946 with his family. He earned a PhD in architectural history from Istanbul University following his education of theology at Marmara University in 1972 and architecture at Mimar Sinan University in 1974. After working as preacher in Edirne, teacher and freelance architect in İstanbul, he served between 1994 and 1998 as advisor to then-mayor of Istanbul Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the restoration and decoration of palaces and other historical buildings in Istanbul.
