Merv Hobbs
Mervyn 'Merv' Hobbs (born 16 June 1942) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the VFL during the early 1960s. VFL career Hobbs was recruited from Daylesford and joined Footscray as a rover. Hobbs is best remembered for a spectacular mark which he took in the 1961 Preliminary Final where Footscray upset Melbourne to end their streak of seven successive Grand Final appearances. His team lost the 1961 Grand Final comfortably to Hawthorn but he played in back to back Night Series Premierships in 1963 and 1964. Hobbs often rested in the forward pocket and was handy near goals. In an era where Footscray lacked big goal-kickers, Hobbs contributed one and a half goals a game. He kicked a career best eight goals in a game against South Melbourne at Western Oval early into his second season. Daylesford Football Club
Daylesford Football Netball Club, nicknamed the Bulldogs, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Daylesford. The club plays in the Central Highlands Football League. The team was formerly known as the Daylesford Demons until 2006, when they joined the Central Highlands Football League. The club competed for many years in the Ballarat Football League winning only one premiership. In 1961, with the help of Jim Gull (ex player) who would kick the league goalkicking record of 159 goals ''the Demons'' won their only flag. The club fell quickly back to the bottom of the ladder and for many years the club struggled to be competitive before deciding in switching leagues in the early 2006. Daylesford's senior side has had a successful run since joining the Central Highlands Football League with three premiership wins in 2007, 2009 and 2012. The Melton Football Netball Club, nicknamed The Bloods, is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the Victorian town of Melton. The football team currently plays in the Ballarat Football League. History Melton Football Club was formed in 1879 when it was known as the ''Bloods'', playing in the Melton and Bacchus Marsh District Football League where the club was successful winning twelve premierships between 1913 and 1963. Melton moved into the Riddell District Football League in 1973. Upon entering the Riddell League in 1973 Melton won the premiership in its first year. With the depth of football standard in the RDFL on the decline, together with considerable opposition from former second division clubs on the formation of one division, the club voted to make the move to the highly rated Ballarat Football League with Sunbury, Darley and Melton South clubs for the commencement of the 1997 playing season.
