Merriwa River
Merriwa River, a perennial river of the Hunter River catchment, is located in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. Course and features Merriwa River rises on the southern slopes of the Great Dividing Range, below Oxleys Peak, north of Merriwa and flows generally south, joined by eight minor tributaries before reaching its confluence with the Goulburn River below Mount Kerrabee. The river descends over its course. At the town of Merriwa, the Golden Highway crosses the Merriwa River. Merriwa is thought to be derived from the Aboriginal word meaning "grass seeds." Golden Highway
Golden Highway is a highway, located in the Hunter and Orana regions of New South Wales, Australia. It runs eastwards from Dubbo towards Newcastle on the coast, allowing road transport to avoid travelling over the Blue Mountains to Sydney, and is designated route B84. Route From west to east, Golden Highway runs through Dunedoo where it is concurrent with Castlereagh Highway for approximately then through Merriwa, Sandy Hollow, Denman, Jerrys Plains and Mount Thorley, joining New England Highway at Belford, south of Singleton. Bylong Valley Way turns off Golden Highway east of Sandy Hollow. Golden Highway and Putty Road are concurrent for around , east of the Mount Thorley industrial estate near Singleton. A stream is a continuous body of surface water flowing within the bed and banks of a channel. Perennial Stream
A perennial stream is a stream that has continuous flow of surface water throughout the year in at least parts of its catchment during seasons of normal rainfall, Water Supply Paper 494. as opposed to one whose flow is intermittent. In the absence of irregular, prolonged or extreme drought, a perennial stream is a watercourse, or segment, element or emerging body of water which continually delivers groundwater. For example, an artificial disruption of stream, variability in flow or stream selection associated with the activity in hydropower installations, do not affect this status. Perennial streams do not include stagnant water ( pools and waterholes), reservoirs, cutoff lakes and ponds that persist throughout the year. Goulburn River National Park
The Goulburn River National Park is a national park located in New South Wales, Australia, northwest of Sydney and it is south-west of Merriwa. The Goulburn River National Park is located in the Hunter Valley region and covers approximately of the Goulburn River. It is near the towns of Sandy Hollow, Denman, Merriwa, and Mudgee.
