U.S. Route 66 (US 66, Route 66) is a former east–west United States Numbered Highway, running from Santa Monica, California to Chicago, Illinois. In Missouri, the highway ran from downtown St. Louis at the Mississippi River to the Kansas state line west of Joplin. The highway was originally Route 14 from St. Louis to Joplin and Route 1F from Joplin to Kansas. It underwent two major realignments (in the St. Louis and Joplin areas) and several lesser realignments in the cities of St. Louis, Springfield, and Joplin. Route 366 is a highway located completely within the St. Louis metropolitan area. It is primarily a former section of U.S. Route 66. Beginning at South Broadway/South Jefferson Avenue in St. Louis and ending at the Interstate 44/ Interstate 270 interchange in Sunset Hills, it was established in 1979 when US 66 was decertified between Chicago, Illinois and Joplin, Missouri. Through the several suburbs of St. Louis it is known as Watson Road, while in the city of St. Louis itself, it is named Chippewa Street. The neighborhood is situated between North Vandeventer Avenue on the northwest, Natural Bridge Avenue on the northeast, North Jefferson Avenue on the East, Delmar Boulevard on the south, and North Compton Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive on the Southwest. In a time of racial segregation following the end of slavery, JeffVanderLou was originally designated as the city's "Negro District" and was one of the only places where African Americans were allowed to own land.
