Mekons
The Mekons are a British band formed in the late 1970s as an art collective. They are one of the longest-running and most prolific of the first-wave British punk rock bands. The band's style has evolved over time to incorporate aspects of country music, folk music, alternative rock and occasional experiments with dub. They are known for their raucous live shows. History The band was formed in 1976 by a group of University of Leeds art students: Jon Langford, Kevin Lycett, Mark White, Andy Corrigan and Tom Greenhalgh—the Gang of Four and Delta 5 formed from the same group of students. They took the band's name from the Mekon, an evil, super-intelligent Venusian featured in the British 1950s–1960s comic ''Dan Dare'' (printed in the ''Eagle''). Jon Langford
Jonathan Denis Langford (born 11 October 1957) is a Welsh musician and artist based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Langford is a founder member of the punk band The Mekons, the post-punk group The Three Johns, and the alternative country ensembles The Waco Brothers and Pine Valley Cosmonauts. He has campaigned against the death penalty in Illinois. Early life Langford was born in Newport, Wales, the youngest son of Kit Langford and Denis Langford, a Registered Chartered Accountant for Lloyd's Brewery. Langford's older brother is science-fiction author and critic David Langford, who lives in Reading, England. Sally Timms
Sally Timms (born 29 November 1959) is an English singer and lyricist. Eric Bellis
Rico Bell ( Eric Bellis) is a UK and California based artist and musician best known for his work as a member of the British punk rock band the Mekons which he joined in 1983. Tom Greenhalgh
Thomas Charles Greenhalgh is a multimedia artist and singer-songwriter best known for his work with the Mekons. Education He attended Sevenoaks School in Kent with future members of the Gang of Four (Andy Gill and Jon King) and the Mekons (Kevin Lycett and Mark White, whose father taught art at the school), and they spent "a lot of time in the art room." After Sevenoaks, the five attended the University of Leeds, the birthplace of a number of punk bands. As students in the Fine Arts program, Greenhalgh, Lycett, White and Jon Langford formed the Mekons in 1976; they worked closely with the Gang of Four and the Delta 5, bands that included students from the same programme. Susie Honeyman
Susie Honeyman (born 31 January 1960) is a Scottish violin player best known for her work with The Mekons. She is co-founder of the Grey Gallery. Biography Honeyman was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Honeyman studied Music at the University of Edinburgh and moved to London in 1982. She is married to painter Jock McFadyen, with whom she has two children (Annie b.1993 and George b.1995) Apart from her long involvement with the Mekons (she joined the band in October 1983) she has played live and recorded with many musicians, including The Fire Engines, Rip Rig + Panic, The Higsons (as the Susie Honeyman String Sensation), Mari Wilson (as a Melting Moment), Hermine and accordion player Ian Hill. Sarah Corina
Sarah Corina is an English bass guitarist and music producer. She has played bass with The Bomb Party, The Mekons, Bill Carter, Die Cheerleader, and Striplight among others. Sarah Corina started playing bass as a teenager in Leicester, she joined The Bomb Party as an original member. The Bomb Party enjoyed an amount of critical success appearing in ''Sounds'', '' Melody Maker'' and the ''NME''. They regularly toured the UK and Germany, including supporting The Fall and Stiff Little Fingers at the ' WDR1 Rocknacht' in 1989. After recording their first album they released three more studio LPs before disbanding in 1990. In 1990 she became a founding member of Die Cheerleader, where she helped to create their sound and co-wrote their songs. Lu Edmonds
Robert David "Lu" Edmonds (born 9 September 1957) is an English rock and folk musician. He is currently, as of 2018, a vocalist and saz and cümbüş player in the Mekons and the lead guitarist for Public Image Limited. Edmonds reportedly plays electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, bouzouki, saz, cümbüs, oud, and drums, among other instruments. Personal life Growing up abroad in Poland, South America, Russia and Cyprus, Edmonds was educated in local schools and at Ampleforth College. As of 2018, he resided in Ireland. David Trumfio (born August 16, 1968) is an American record producer, mixer, engineer and musician, best known for his production work with artists such as Wilco and his recordings with his own band The Pulsars. Fast Product
Fast Product was an independent record label, established in Edinburgh by Bob Last, his partner, Hilary Morrison and Tim Pearce in December 1977. Its first release was also the first single by the Mekons, released on 20 January 1978. The label issued the first records by a number of early and influential post-punk bands from Northern England, including the original Human League, Gang of Four and the Mekons. Fast Product also released the first singles by the Scottish punk bands Scars and The Flowers. The label also released compilations of various new bands called 'ear comics' or ''Earcom''. Many of the label's releases were also produced by Bob Last with Morrison producing photographs and visuals for the record sleeves. The Waco Brothers
The Waco Brothers are an American alternative country, or country-punk rock, band based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. History The Waco Brothers was formed by Jon Langford of the Mekons. The group grew out of Langford's wish to play more country-influenced music as the Mekons concentrated more on a punk sound. They were originally put together simply for local Chicago shows, but the success of their Bloodshot Records albums allowed them to tour the US occasionally. Some of the members also participated in Langford's Pine Valley Cosmonauts project. The band recorded the first of its studio albums in 1995. The Three Johns
