Meitei People

The Meiteis primarily settled in the Imphal Valley region in modern-day Manipur, though a sizable population has settled in the other Indian states of Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. Meitei Language
Meitei (), also known as Manipuri (, ), is a Tibeto-Burman language of north-eastern India. It is spoken by around 1.8 million people, predominantly in the state of Manipur, but also by smaller communities in the rest of the country and in parts of neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh. It is native to the Meitei people, and within Manipur it serves as an official language and a lingua franca. It was used as a court language in the historic Manipur Kingdom and is presently included among the 22 scheduled languages of India. Meitei is a tonal language whose exact classification within Sino-Tibetan remains unclear. It has lexical resemblances to Kuki and Tangkhul. Meitei is the most widely spoken Indian Sino-Tibetan language and the most spoken language in northeast India after Bengali and Assamese. Meitei Architecture
Meitei architecture or Manipuri architecture is the architecture produced by the Meitei speaking people, whose culture flourished in the Kangleipak kingdom and its neighbouring kingdoms from the middle of the fifteenth century BC. The Meitei architecture is best known for its temples (Laishang, Kiyong, Thellon), found scattered in the Kangleipak (present day Manipur). Other architectural forms that are still in existence are the grand gates (Hojang), Traditional houses (Yumjao), Public houses (Sanglen), Official buildings (Loishang), etc. Influence Due to the arrival of Hinduism in the kingdom of Kangleipak (present day Manipur), the form of architecture was greatly influenced during the 16-17th century AD. Denechandra Meitei
Yendrembam Denechandra Meitei (born 28 March 1994) is an Indian professional footballer who last played as a defender for Indian Super League club Punjab. Club career Early career Born in Manipur, Meitei started playing football from the age of 10 years. He initially trained at a local stadium to improve his technical ability. He eventually managed to make it into his district team and then the Manipur football team in the youth nationals. Then in 2008 he was signed by Mohun Bagan A.C. to join their academy. After a one-year stay at the academy, Meitei joined the Sambhalpur Academy in Orissa. However, due to problems with both academies in terms of how they taught academics, Meitei dropped out of both. Ningombam Bupenda Meitei (born 6 April 1987) is an Indian writer, essayist and poet in English and Meitei languages. Early life Ningombam Bupenda Meitei was born in Imphal, Manipur to the descendant of Maharaja Kullachandra of Manipur whose royal throne was recognised by the Viceroy of India, Lord Lansdowne. Romi Meitei (born 19 September 1976) is an Indian film director and lyricist who works in Manipuri films. He is a recipient of several awards at several film festivals organised in India and abroad and has directed movies for around two decades. ''Thoiba Thoibi'', ''Inga Nonglakta'', ''Manithoiba'', ''Natephamda Tero'', ''Chumthang Makhong'', ''Mikithi'' and ''Dharmagi Mingda Imagidamak'' are some of the well-known movies he directed.
