The Viktoria, formerly spelled ''Victoria'', is a German association football trophy which was awarded to the German champions from 1903 to 1944. It is modelled on Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, winged and flinging a wreath. Thus it is the smaller reproduction of a life size sculpture to be found in Berlin's Old National Gallery. 1949 German Football Championship
The 1949 German football championship, the 39th edition of the competition, was the culmination of the 1948–49 football season in Germany. VfR Mannheim were crowned champions for the first time after a one-leg knock-out tournament. It was both sides' first appearance in the final. The tournament was expanded so that ten teams were to take part in the final stage which was played as a one-leg knock-out tournament, with the matches played on neutral ground. The five regional Oberliga winners, along with VfR Mannheim and Wormatia Worms, automatically qualified for the quarter finals, while the remaining three teams played qualifying rounds to clinch the eighth place. The 1949 championship was the first to see a new trophy for the champions awarded. The pre-Second World War trophy, the '' Viktoria'', had disappeared during the final stages of the war and would not resurface until after the German reunification. 1963–64 Bundesliga
The 1963–64 Bundesliga season was the inaugural season for a single division highest tier of football in West Germany. It began on 24 August 1963 and ended on 9 May 1964. The first goal was scored by Friedhelm Konietzka for Borussia Dortmund in their game against Werder Bremen. The championship was won by 1. FC Köln. The first teams to be relegated were Preußen Münster and 1. FC Saarbrücken. Competition modus Every team played two games against each other team, one at home and one away. 1903 German Football Championship
The 1903 German football championship was the first tournament sanctioned by the German Football Association (DFB) to crown a national champion. At the time, the newly founded DFB only had about 150 member clubs in 30 mostly local associations. Every champion of these associations was eligible for play in the championship. Additionally, associations from outside Germany were allowed to take part, such as the Prague association that sent her champion to Germany. Although thirty teams would have been eligible, only six eventually entered the competition. VfB Leipzig became the first club to be awarded the ''Viktoria (trophy), Viktoria'', the trophy for the German champions from 1903 to 1944. The trophy later disappeared during the final stages of the Second World War, did not resurface until after the German reunification and was put on display at the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt until 2015, when it was moved to the new ''Deutsches Fußballmuseum'' in Dortmund.
