Alexander Mein
Colonel Alexander Lechmere Mein (15 July 1854 – 30 November 1927) was a British Army officer who served with the Royal Engineers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, spending the majority of his career in India. The only active service that he saw was during the Anglo-Afghan War in 1878 to 1880. In his youth, he was a keen amateur sportsman and played association football for the Royal Engineers, being on the winning side in the 1875 FA Cup Final. Family and education Mein was born on 15 July 1854 at York, where his father, Major George Mein (1817–1896) was brigade major with the 21st Dragoons. Mein's mother, Marianne (1815–1885), was the daughter of Frederick Coore, a solicitor. Hannie Mein
Johanna Greta (Hannie) Mein (Utrecht, 10 July 1933 - Vinkega, 14 February 2003) was a Dutch ceramist. Life and work After secondary school Mein started working at a potter. She attended evening classes at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where she was taught by Theo Dobbelman and Emmy van Deventer. In Amsterdam she started her own studio together with Freek Noppen, whom she married in 1963. In 1969 the couple moved to the Frisian Vinkega. Mein had her studio and exhibition space in their farmhouse "the Bakehouse." Her husband took care of the business section. Mein produced much pottery, but also unique pieces. Her work has been recognized by the naive style, often with stylized animal figures. In 1988 Mein was involved in the establishment of the Foundation Ceramists Northern Netherlands. John Gordon Mein
John Gordon Mein (September 10, 1913 – August 28, 1968) was the first United States ambassador to be assassinated while serving in office. Mein served as the United States Ambassador to Guatemala during the Guatemalan Civil War. It was during his tenure that U.S.-backed state terrorism which started after the 1954 Guatemalan coup d'état greatly accelerated with forced disappearances and massacres. He was shot by rebels belonging to the Rebel Armed Forces (FAR) one block from the U.S. consulate on Avenida Reforma in Guatemala City on August 28, 1968. U.S. officials believed that FAR intended to kidnap him in order to negotiate an exchange, but instead they shot him when he attempted to escape. The rebels had killed two U.S. military aides prior to the assassination of Mein. William Mein Smith
William Mein Smith (also known as Kapene Mete; 1798 – 3 January 1869) was a key figure in the settlement of Wellington, New Zealand. As the Surveyor General for Edward Wakefield's New Zealand Company at Port Nicholson from 1840 to 1843, he and his team surveyed the town of Wellington, after finding the land on the Petone foreshore unsuitable, laying out the town belt and other features and making provision for the much debated "tenth" share of the land for local Māori. The Mein tribe of the Ijaw people lives along the Forcados River in Delta State, Nigeria. The Mein trace their origins to Benin City, via parts of the central Niger Delta. Écoust-Saint-Mein is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais ''département'' in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography Écoust-Saint-Mein is a farming village situated southeast of Arras at the junction of the D956 and D5 roads.
