MediaPark
The MediaPark is an urban regeneration neighborhood in Cologne, Germany, completed by the turn of the millennium. It was set up to accommodate companies of the media and communication industry, as well as cultural institutions, a hotel and some apartment buildings. The MediaPark is situated in Neustadt-Nord, Cologne, on the site of a former goods station, and is some 20 hectare large. The project was designed by Canadian architect Eberhard Zeidler, with construction lasting from 1990 until 2004. The buildings sit radially around a central square, and are surrounded by parks and a small lake. The city quarter's focal point is the 148 metre tall KölnTurm, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel and completed in 2001. The MediaPark is home to over 250 companies and a workforce of some 5,000 people. The Ensemble Musikfabrik (music factory ensemble) is an ensemble for contemporary classical music located in Cologne. Their official name is Ensemble Musikfabrik Landesensemble NRW e.V. Innenstadt () is the central borough (''Stadtbezirk'') of the City of Cologne in Germany. The borough was established with the last communal land reform in 1975, and comprises Cologne's historic old town (Altstadt), the Gründerzeit era new town (Neustadt) plus the right-Rhenish quarter of Deutz. Eberhard Zeidler (architect)
Eberhard Heinrich Zeidler, (January 11, 1926 – January 7, 2022) was a German-Canadian architect. He designed iconic structures and landmarks in Canada and internationally, most notably in Toronto. These included the Toronto Eaton Centre, Ontario Place, Toronto Centre for the Arts, as well as redevelopments of the Queen's Quay Terminal and the Gladstone Hotel. His firm also designed Canada Place in Vancouver for Expo 86. Early life Zeidler was born in Braunsdorf, Germany, on January 11, 1926. He served in the German navy during World War II. He was instructed under the influence of the Bauhaus school in Weimar and the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe. He fled East Germany and worked in the office established by Emanuel Lindner, his former professor. There, he constructed several factories and medical buildings. Cologne Ring
The Cologne Ring (known in German as: ''Kölner Ringe'') is a semi-circular, some 6 km long urban boulevard in Innenstadt, Cologne and the city's busiest and most prominent street system. The Cologne Ring is a four lane street and part of Bundesstraße 9. The ring road encircles the old town of Cologne on its southern, western and northern boundaries on the site of the former mediaeval city wall. It divides Innenstadt into old town (''Altstadt'') east of it and new town (''Neustadt'') west of it. Most of the city wall has been worked away during the 1880s and only few sections of the wall exist today at Hansaring and Sachsenring. The Cologne Stadtbahn is a light rail system in the German city of Cologne, including several surrounding cities of the Cologne Bonn Region (Bergisch Gladbach, Bonn, Bornheim, Brühl, Frechen, Hürth, Leverkusen-Schlebusch, Wesseling).
