McClellan AFB Annex
McClellan Air Force Base Annex #1 ("McClellan Anx #1") was a military installation near McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento County, California, that was active from 28 November 1951 to 2 July 1956. Strategic Air Command operated an :United States automatic tracking radar stations, automatic tracking radar station (call sign "Sacramento Bomb Plot") just outside the base at Whitney and Eastern Avenues. History Colorado Springs Tent Camp, Colorado Spring's 206th Army Air Force Base Unit, following the World War II, Second World War in 1946, had Radar Bomb Scoring detachments in Fairfax Field, Kansas City and Dallas Love Field, Dallas. Radar Bomb Scoring Division, RBS Detachment D moved to near McClellan AFB, from Fort George Wright, Spokane, Washington, around September 1951, and was renamed to become Detachment 12 of the 3903rd Radar Bomb Scoring Group, 3903rd Radar Bomb Scoring Squadron. Fort George Wright
Fort George Wright is a land area in the northwest United States, located in Spokane, Washington's West Hills neighborhood. It is named after General George Wright, who had been stationed in the area. History In 1895, local residents purchased the area then known as ''Twickenham Park'', which was deeded to the government for the construction of a military post. The 3903rd Radar Bomb Scoring Group was a military evaluation unit under direct command of Strategic Air Command (SAC) headquarters for scoring simulated bomb runs using automatic tracking radar stations. Initially an Army Air Forces Base Unit (AAFBU) and then a squadron, the 3903rd RBS Group was personnel, assets, and detachments were redesignated the 1st Radar Bomb Scoring Group and then the 1CEVG Radar Bomb Scoring Division when the RBS Group merged with the 3908th Strategic Standardization Group in 1961, the year RBS Express trains began to be used for low-altitude Boeing B-52 Stratofortress operations.. Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance (''ranging''), angle, and radial velocity of objects relative to the site. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather formations, and terrain. McClellan Air Force Base
McClellan Air Force Base (1935–2001) is a former United States Air Force base located in the North Highlands area of Sacramento County, northeast of Sacramento, California. History For the vast majority of its operational lifetime, McClellan was a logistics and maintenance facility for a wide variety of military aircraft, equipment and supplies. Initially known as the Pacific Air Depot and Sacramento Air Depot, in 1939 the base was renamed for Major Hezekiah McClellan, a pioneer in arctic aeronautical tests. Born in 1894, he died on 25 May 1936 when his Consolidated P-30 which he was flight testing crashed near Centerville, Ohio. The depot went through several name changes, finishing its life in 1995 as the Sacramento Air Logistics Center (SALC).
