Matías David Rodríguez
Matías David Rodríguez (born 14 December 1981) is an Argentine politician currently serving as a National Senator for Tierra del Fuego. A member of the Justicialist Party and La Cámpora, Rodríguez was elected in 2019, and currently sits in the Frente de Todos parliamentary bloc. He previously served as a National Deputy from 2015 to 2019, and as head of the provincial branch of ANSES in Tierra del Fuego from 2012 to 2015. Early and personal life Rodríguez was born on 14 December 1981 in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. He is married to Laura Beatriz Ávila and has two children. Political career Rodríguez became a supporter of former president Néstor Kirchner during his presidential campaign in 2003, when he became part of the "Kirchner Presidente" committee in Tierra del Fuego. The Honorable Senate of the Argentine Nation ( es, Honorable Senado de la Nación Argentina) is the upper house of the National Congress of Argentina. Overview The National Senate was established by the Argentine Confederation on July 29, 1854, pursuant to Articles 46 to 54 of the 1853 Constitution. There are 72 members: three for each province and three for the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The number of senators per province was raised from two to three following the 1994 amendment of the Argentine Constitution as well as the addition of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires' senators. Those changes took effect following the May 14, 1995, general elections. Senators are elected to six-year terms by direct election on a provincial basis, with the party with the most votes being awarded two of the province's senate seats and the second-place party receiving the third seat. 2015 Argentine General Election
General elections were held in Argentina on 25 October 2015 to elect the President and National Congress, and followed primary elections which were held on 9 August 2015. A second round of voting between the two leading candidates took place on 22 November, after surprisingly close results forced a runoff. On the first runoff voting ever held for an Argentine Presidential Election, Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri narrowly defeated Front for Victory candidate and Buenos Aires Province Governor Daniel Scioli with 51.34% of votes. As of 2021, his vote count of nearly 13 million votes makes it the highest number of votes any candidate has ever received in Argentinian history. The Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Law ( es, Ley de Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo; IVE) was approved by the National Congress of Argentina in 2020, legalizing abortion in Argentina. The first draft of the bill was created in 2006 by the National Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe, and Free Abortion (''Campaña Nacional por el Derecho al Aborto Legal, Seguro y Gratuito''), which sought to have Congress consider it in seven different occasions, to no avail. Elective Abortion in Argentina is legal in the first 14 weeks of gestation. The abortion law was liberalized after the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy Bill (Argentina) was passed by the National Congress in December 2020. According to the law, any woman can request the procedure at any public or private health facility. Doctors are legally bound to either perform it or, if they are conscientious objectors, refer the patient to another physician or health facility. Only four other Latin or South American countries have legalised abortion on request: Cuba in 1965, Guyana in 1995, Uruguay in 2012 and Colombia in 2022. María Eugenia Duré (born 17 March 1980) is an Argentine journalist and politician currently serving as a National Senator for Tierra del Fuego.
