Matthäus Stegmayer, also Matthias Stegmayer (29 April 1771 – 10 May 1820); the year of death is also given differently as 1810 ) was an Austrian composer, musician, music publisher, librettist and actor. Life and career Born in Vienna, Stegmayer was the son of a master tailor and citizen of Vienna and the father of Karl Stegmayer (1800-1862), the author of several montanistic half-timbering but also of stage plays, as well as of the conductor, choirmaster of the Wiener Männergesang-Verein and founder of the Wiener Singakademie Ferdinand Stegmayer (1801-1863), and Wilhelm Stegmayer (* 1805), in his youth a child actor, whose trace was later lost as a first lieutenant in the k.k. Austrian infantry regiment "Herzog von Wellington" No 42. Ignaz Von Seyfried
Ignaz Xaver, Ritter von Seyfried (15 August 1776 – 27 August 1841) was an Austrian musician, conductor and composer. He was born and died in Vienna. According to a statement in his handwritten memoirs he was a pupil of both Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Georg Albrechtsberger. He edited Albrechtsberger's complete written works after his death, published by Tobias Haslinger. His own pupils included Franz von Suppé, Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, Antonio Casimir Cartellieri, Joseph Fischhof and Eduard Marxsen who would later teach Brahms. As conductor In his youth Seyfried served as the assistant conductor for Emanuel Schikaneder's opera troupe at the Theater auf der Wieden in Vienna, becoming musical director in 1797 and serving (in its new building, the Theater an der Wien) until 1826. Johann Georg Lickl
Johann Georg Lickl, also Ligkl, Hans-Georg Lickl, hu, Lickl György (11 April 1769 – 12 May 1843) was an Austrian composer, organist, Kapellmeister in the main church of Pécs, and piano teacher. Lickl was born in Korneuburg, Lower Austria, and orphaned as a child. He studied under Witzig, who was the organist at the church of Korneuburg. He relocated to Vienna in 1785 and studied under Albrechtsberger and Joseph Haydn. Later in the 1780s, he became organist at the Carmelite church in Leopoldstadt. He collaborated with Emanuel Schikaneder on a number of '' Singspiele'' in the 1790s, working in the Theater auf der Wieden. He died, aged 74, in Fünfkirchen ( hu, Pécs), southern Royal Hungary, Imperial Austria. He wrote operas, one wind quintet, three string quartets, and served as a Kapellmeister at several churches. Conradin Kreutzer
Conradin Kreutzer or Kreuzer (22 November 1780 – 14 December 1849) was a German composer and conductor. His works include the operas ''Das Nachtlager in Granada'' and incidental music to ''Der Verschwender'', both produced in 1834 in Vienna. Biography Born in Meßkirch, Baden, Kreutzer abandoned his studies in the law (University of Freiburg) and went to Vienna about 1804, where he met Joseph Haydn and may have studied with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, while he tried his hand unsuccessfully at singspielen. He spent 1811–12 in Stuttgart, where at least three of his operas were staged and he was awarded the post of Hofkapellmeister. He was from 1812 to 1816 Kapellmeister to the king of Württemberg. In Western classical music, a motet is mainly a vocal musical composition, of highly diverse form and style, from high medieval music to the present. The motet was one of the pre-eminent polyphonic forms of Renaissance music. ''Posse mit Gesang'' ("farce with singing", plural: Possen) is a form of popular German-language music drama, that developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Early examples are sometimes called 'Possenspil' or 'Possenspiel'. It is also sometimes referred to simply as 'Posse' (farce). Associated with Vienna, and also Berlin and Hamburg, the Posse mit Gesang was similar to the Singspiel, but generally had more action and less music than the more operatic form. Viennese examples included Ferdinand Raimund's ''Der Alpenkönig und der Menschenfeind'' of 1828 and many of the works of Johann Nestroy. Johann Nestroy
Johann Nepomuk Eduard Ambrosius Nestroy (; 7 December 1801 – 25 May 1862) was a singer, actor and playwright in the popular Austrian tradition of the Biedermeier period and its immediate aftermath. He participated in the 1848 revolutions and his work reflects the new liberal spirit then spreading throughout Europe. Career Nestroy was born in Vienna, where he was a law student from 1817 to 1822, before abandoning his studies to become a singer. He joined the Theater am Kärntnertor, beginning with Sarastro in ''The Magic Flute'' on 24 August 1822. After a year of singing in Vienna, he went to Amsterdam where he appeared in baritone roles for two years at the local German Theatre. From 1825 to 1831 he accepted engagements to sing and act in Brünn, Graz, Pressburg, Klagenfurt, Vienna and Lemberg.
