Mats Jonsson (cartoonist)
Mats Jonsson (born in 1973) is a Swedish comic creator. Debuting as a teenager in the Swedish fanzine society, Jonsson later became one of the prime Swedish representants for the autobiographical comic genre, inspired by American and Canadian comic creators such as Harvey Pekar, Seth, and Joe Matt. Though born in Södertälje near Stockholm, Jonsson grew up in Kramfors in the northern Ådalen area. His previous graphic novels have portrayed the depopulation of his hometown, the urban-rural divide and his annoyance with Stockholm (where he lived between 1995 and 2020) and Stockholmers. Fanzine
A fanzine (blend of '' fan'' and ''magazine'' or ''-zine'') is a non-professional and non-official publication produced by enthusiasts of a particular cultural phenomenon (such as a literary or musical genre) for the pleasure of others who share their interest. The term was coined in an October 1940 science fiction fanzine by Russ Chauvenet and first popularized within science fiction fandom, and from there the term was adopted by other communities. Typically, publishers, editors, writers and other contributors of articles or illustrations to fanzines are not paid. Fanzines are traditionally circulated free of charge, or for a nominal cost to defray postage or production expenses. Gregory Gallant (born September 16, 1962), better known by his pen name Seth, is a Canadian cartoonist. He is best known for his series ''Palookaville'' and his mock-autobiographical graphic novel '' It's a Good Life, If You Don't Weaken'' (1996). Seth draws in a style influenced by the classic cartoonists of ''The New Yorker''. His work is highly nostalgic, especially for the early-to-mid-20th Century period, and of Southern Ontario. His work also shows a great depth and breadth of knowledge of the history of comics and cartooning. Joe Matt (born September 3, 1963) is an American cartoonist, best known for his autobiographical work, '' Peepshow''. Early life Matt was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He started drawing comics in 1987. Career In his autobiographical comic '' Peepshow'', Joe Matt examines his inadequate social skills, his addiction to pornography, his cantankerous relationship with his then-girlfriend Trish, and the lingering effects of his Catholic upbringing. Matt began creating 'Peepshow' in 1987. In 1992, his 'Peepshow' strips were serialized by Kitchen Sink Press under the title 'Peepshow: The Cartoon Diary of Joe Matt'. Kramfors Municipality
Kramfors Municipality (''Kramfors kommun'') is a municipality in Västernorrland County, northern Sweden. Its seat is located in the town Kramfors. The rural municipality of ''Gudmundrå'' was in 1947 made one of the last administrative cities of Sweden and got the name Kramfors from an industrial settlement. In 1952 many of the surrounding entities were grouped into larger municipalities. The nationwide reform in 1971 made Kramfors a unitary municipality, but the amalgamation process was not fulfilled until 1974. The number of original units within the present municipality is eleven, including Bjärtrå. The municipality features the Sandö Bridge, crossing the Ångerman River. It is a concrete bridge in one span, and with a length of 264 meters it was the longest of that kind from its inauguration 1943 to 1964. August Prize
The August Prize ( sv, Augustpriset) is an annual Swedish literary prize awarded each year since 1989 by the Swedish Publishers' Association. The prize is awarded to the best Swedish book of the year, in three categories. Prize In the years 1989-1992, the prize was awarded in one general category. Since 1992, the prize has been awarded in the categories Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Children's and Youth Literature. The prize is named after the writer August Strindberg. Selection All Swedish publishers may submit nominations for the award. In each category, a jury shortlists six titles each. These titles are then read and voted on by an assembly of 63 electors, 21 in each category. The electors come from across the country, and comprise booksellers, librarians and literary critics. The books receiving the largest number of votes in each category win the prize. The prizes are handed out at a gala in Stockholm.
