Rob Marris
Robert Howard Marris (born 8 April 1955) is a British Labour Party politician, who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wolverhampton South West. He first held the seat from 2001 until his defeat in 2010. He regained at the seat at the 2015 general election, but stepped down at the 2017 general election. Early life and career The son of Dr. Charles Marris and Margaret Marris JP, he was born in Wolverhampton and partially educated at Warstones Primary School, before attending Birchfield Preparatory School and St. Edward's School in Oxford. He then moved to Canada and spent some time as a lumberjack, before obtaining a double first in History and Sociology from the University of British Columbia. Charles Allan Marris
Charles Allan Marris (11 September 1876 – 30 June 1947) was a New Zealand journalist and editor. As an editor, he "upheld Georgian poetic conventions and discouraged literary modernism", and encouraged the works of Robin Hyde. Marris had a long-standing feud with Denis Glover; in his 1937 satirical poem ''The Arraignment of Paris'', Glover stated Marris was the "arbiter of all our art and letters / presenting rotten apples to his betters". Marris wrote a daily column under the alias Percy Flage in '' The Evening Post'' until 1946. Early life Charles Allan Marris was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 11 September 1876 to Charles Augustus Marris, a law clerk, and Agnes Reid Allan. William Sinclair Marris
Sir William Sinclair Marris (9 October 1873 – 12 December 1945) was a British civil servant, colonial administrator, and classical scholar. He was a member of the Indian Civil Service during the British Raj, and later became Vice-Chancellor of the University of Durham. Education and life Born on 9 October 1873, Marris was educated at Wanganui Collegiate School and Canterbury College in New Zealand, and later studied at Christ Church, Oxford. He passed first in the Indian Civil Service (open) examination in 1895. He married Eleanor Mary Fergusson, in 1905, who died a year later in 1906. After retirement from the Indian Civil Service, Marris returned to Northern England and remarried to Elizabeth Wilford in 1934, whom he had known from his childhood in New Zealand. Emma Marris
Emma Marris (born January 15, 1979) is an American non-fiction writer. She grew up in Seattle, Washington, and attended Roosevelt High School, where she worked on the school newspaper. She earned a BA in English at the University of Texas at Austin and a Masters in Science Writing from Johns Hopkins University, and wrote for the scientific journal ''Nature'' for five years. Her book ''Rambunctious Garden: Saving Nature in a Post-Wild World'' introduces conservation approaches that go beyond simply protecting land seen as "wilderness." Her 2021 book, ''Wild Souls: Freedom and Flourishing in the Non-Human World'', focuses on the ethics of human relationships with wild animals, including hunting, keeping wild pets, captive breeding, and wildlife management. Georgia Marris
Georgia Marris (born 15 November 1996) is a New Zealand swimmer. In 2018 she is competing in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the 100m butterfly event. Marris was born and grew up on the North Shore, Auckland. She began learning to swim from 6 months old, and from the age of three had lessons with New Zealand swimming representative, Phillipa Gower (née Gould). Marris first competed for New Zealand at the 2012 Trans-Tasman Tri Series, followed by the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in 2013. She has broken a number of New Zealand age group short course records including 13 years 100m freestyle, 16 years 200m freestyle and 17 years 100m freestyle.
