Marc Fosset
Marc Fosset (17 May 1949 – 31 October 2020) was a French jazz guitarist. Life and career Marc Fosset was born in Paris. He learned to play guitar left-handed after seeing Yves Montand and Didi Duprat perform, and was also influenced by Django Reinhardt's style. With Michel De Villers, Fosset began accompanying jazz and blues musicians in the Trois Mailletz club in Paris. He joined the rock band Magma, played with René Urtreger and Claude Guilhot, and in 1976 he founded a trio with Franco Manzecchi and Patrice Galas. In 1977 he formed a duo with Patrice Caratini. In the 1980s and 1990s, he toured with Stephane Grappelli. Fosset often performed in a duo with Jean-Michel Cazorla and as a trio with Laurent and Philippe Briand. Fosset retired in 2010, because of Parkinson's disease. He died on 31 October 2020, aged 71. Florin Niculescu (born February 8, 1967 in Bucharest) is a Romanian violinist of Romani (Gypsy) ethnicity. Family background and education Niculescu was born into a family of educated ''lăutari''. Everybody in his family was involved in music: his father and his uncle were violinists, his mother a pianist and his sister a cellist. He received his first violin lessons from his father, with whom he started to study seriously when he was 4–5 years old. At 6 he enrolled at the Dinu Lipatti Music School and then at George Enescu Music High School where he was a first prize student. He played with his father at weddings and celebrations and developed his improvisation skills. Tonino Baliardo
Baliardo performing in 2012 Antoine "Tonino" Baliardo is a French guitarist of Spanish Gitano descent. He is the lead guitarist for Gipsy Kings, a New Flamenco group from France that has sold more than 18 million albums worldwide. He was born in Montpellier. He is the nephew of guitarist Manitas de Plata. Most Gipsy Kings albums have between three and five instrumental cuts - all written by Baliardo; he also co-writes their vocal numbers. After his 2001 solo debut, ''Essences,'' Baliardo released an instrumental album under his homonimus name in 2003, of his own originals. "Tonino is the most creative person in the band," said Chico Bouchikhi, a former member who co-wrote their biggest hit to date, " Bamboléo". "He has lots of ideas and a great imagination. Marcel Azzola
Marcel Azzola (10 July 1927 – 21 January 2019) was a French accordionist. He performed with Stan Getz and Jacques Brel, among others. The famous line "" ("Heat up, Marcel") in Brel's song "Vésoul" refers to Azzola, who played the accordion during the recording. Biography Marcel Azzola was born in Paris in 1927 to Italian parents: his father, Giuseppe (a builder, 1896–1978) and his mother, Angelina (1901–2002) both came from Bergamo. Marcel had two elder and two younger sisters. His parents had moved to France in 1922. His father had conducted a mandolin orchestra in Italy, and Marcel, like two of his sisters, learned to play the violin. He abandoned the instrument after a year. Mark O'Connor
Mark O'Connor (born August 5, 1961) is an American fiddle player and composer whose music combines bluegrass, country, jazz and classical. A three-time Grammy Award winner, he has won six Country Music Association Musician Of The Year awards and, was a member of three influential musical ensembles; the David Grisman Quintet, The Dregs and Strength in Numbers. O'Connor has released 45 albums, of mostly original music, over a 45-year career. He has recorded and performed mostly his original American Classical music for decades. An expert at traditionally-based fiddle and bluegrass music, he also plays other instruments proficiently, including the violin, guitar and mandolin. Maxime Le Forestier (; born 10 February 1949 as Bruno Le Forestier) is a French singer-songwriter. Life and career Bruno Le Forestier was born on 10 February 1949 in Paris to father Robert Le Forestier and mother Genevieve (née Lili 1917–2010) who had lived in England. He had two older sisters, Annette (born 1943) and Catherine (born 1946). His musical training started on the violin. He attended the Lycée Condorcet, where he studied literature. In 1965, he formed a duo (''Cat et Maxime'') with his sister Catherine. Playing at cabaret venues on Paris' Left Bank, the pair met and formed a friendship with Georges Moustaki. ''Live 1992'' is a jazz album by Stéphane Grappelli. The album features Philip Catherine and Marc Fosset, guitars, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, bass. It is one of his last live albums before his death in 1997. The album was recorded live on March 27 and 28, 1992 at the Salle de spectacles de Colombes, France and produced by Jean François Deiber for Birdology records. The original more serious looking photo of Grappelli on the red cover of the Birdology release was replaced with a lighter and younger looking picture of Grappelli in a coat for Verve.
