Mansfield Marksman
Mansfield Marksman was a rugby league team based at various times in Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton and ultimately Nottingham. The club changed its name to Nottingham City in 1989, and folded in 1994 a year after exiting the Rugby Football League. Amateur rugby league continues in Mansfield in the form of Sherwood Wolf Hunt RLFC whilst Nottingham has Nottingham Outlaws who play in the Rugby League Conference National Division. History Mansfield Marksman RLFC ''Mansfield Marksman'' was founded in 1984 and joined the Second Division, along with Sheffield Eagles, in 1984-85. Mansfield was chosen as it was in the heartland of the Nottinghamshire coalfields, and close to Yorkshire where rugby league was much stronger. Their General Manager was Dave Parker, a rugby league journalist. Harvey Hadden Stadium
The Harvey Hadden Stadium is a purpose-built athletics stadium in the Bilborough district of Nottingham, England which is the home of Notts Athletics Club (who compete in the Premier Division of the National Athletics League), Nottingham Caesars (an American Football team playing in the BAFA National Leagues) as well as the and both the Athletic clubs of Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham. It is also used for other sporting events such as Football, Boxing, MMA and Rugby league. Facilities The stadium is currently operated by Nottingham City Council. Blackpool Borough
Blackpool Borough was a rugby league club based in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, that played in the Rugby Football League from 1954 until 1993. The club moved to Wigan in 1987 and was renamed Springfield Borough; to Chorley in 1988 and was renamed Chorley Borough; to Altrincham in 1989 and was renamed Trafford Borough, and finally back to Blackpool in 1992 as Blackpool Gladiators. Rugby Football League Championship Third Division
The Rugby Football League Championship Third Division was founded in 1991 and was the third tier of professional rugby league in the UK until 1998. History The RFL Championship Third Division was founded in 1991 to make the top two divisions more competitive. The competition ran for two seasons until it was scrapped in 1993. The third division was resurrected in 1995 and ran for another three seasons although there was no promotion in 1995-96. In 1999 the Second and Third Divisions were merged to create the Northern Ford Premiership, the third division was recreated again in 2003. National Conference League
The National Conference League (known as the Kingstone Press National Conference League for sponsorship reasons) is the top English amateur rugby league competition in the Rugby Football League pyramid, and as such is the leading amateur rugby league competition in England. Since 2012, the National Conference operates over a summer season in line with the professional game. Maurice Lindsay (rugby League)
Maurice Lindsay (8 May 1941 – 17 May 2022) was the chairman of Preston North End F.C. and of Wigan Warriors R.L.F.C. and had two stints at the club after being one of the 'Gang of Four' directors that used to run the club when it dominated the league in the 1980s. Career Lindsay was the owner of a contractors plant hire company as well as a bookmaker when he came to Wigan in 1980 to join Jack Robinson, Tom Rathbone & Jack Hilton. This led to an upsurge in the fortunes of the club. Wigan became one of the first teams to turn professional in the league and dominated the scene winning an eight League Championships, between 1987 and 1996, as well as nine Challenge Cup wins including a record eight consecutive wins between 1988 and 1995 as well as five Lancashire County Cups and three World Club Championships. Huddersfield Giants
Huddersfield Giants are an English professional rugby league club from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, the birthplace of rugby league, who play in the Super League competition. They play their home games at the John Smiths Stadium which is shared with Huddersfield Town F.C. Huddersfield is also one of the original twenty-two rugby clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895, making them one of the world's first rugby league teams. Sutton Town A.F.C. was a football club based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England. The previous club was a member of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division until 2007 when they resigned, but the new club joined the Central Midlands League Premier Division, three levels lower in the English football league system, and later played in the East Midlands Counties League. Workington Town R.L.F.C. is a semi-professional rugby league club playing in Workington in west Cumbria. Their stadium is Derwent Park, which they share with Workington Comets, a speedway team.
