Manos Zacharias
Manos Zacharias (Greek language, Greek: Μάνος Ζαχαρίαςc; born 9 July 1922) is a Greek film director and actor who was active in Greek and Cinema of the Soviet Union, Soviet cinematography. Life and career Zacharias was born on 9 July 1922 in Athens, in the area of Thiseio, Thisio. His father was a chemist and his mother was a teacher. He studied at the University of Athens in the chemistry department and during 1941 and 1944 he was a member of EPON. In 1945, with a scholarship from the Institut de France, French Institute, he left for studies in Paris on the ship " Mataroa" together with other young people who later excelle Kostas Axelos, Memos Makris etc. He studied cinema at IDHEK and attended theater courses. In 1956, after a competition, he studied at the Mosfilm, Mosfilm school in Moscow. With the end of his studies he worked as a director at Mosfilm. ''Punisher'' (russian: Каратель) is a 1968 Soviet drama film directed by Manos Zacharias. Plot The film is set in Greece during the period of the Greek junta. The soldier Vangelis is ordered to take part in the execution of a young communist, after a fellow soldier, Dimitris, refuses. Feeling guilty over his role in the execution, Vangelis tries to confide in his girlfriend Maria, but finds himself unable to do so. Instead he gets into a fight with a drunken passer-by, and flees from a military patrol, taking shelter in a local church, where he confesses to the priest. The priest tells Vangelis that he killed many Gestapo men during the Second World War in order to avenge the death of his parents, but was not able to find peace of mind. He is of the opinion that killing people is a terrible thing. Vangelis's guilt deepens after time spent with friends, realising that in the event of a future civil war, he would likely find himself fighting with and killing his friends. ...
