Mampong
Mampong is a town in the Mampong Municipal of Ashanti and serves as the administrative capital of Mampong Municipal. Mampong has a population of 42,037 people. Mampong is also the centre of the new Anglican Diocese of Asante Mampong, inaugurated in 2014. Education The Amaniampong Senior High School is located in Mampong. Akuapim-Mampong
Akuapim-Mampong is a town in the Akuapim North district of the Eastern Region of Ghana. It shares boundaries with Mamfe .It is famous for being the first place cocoa was planted in Ghana by Tetteh Quarshie History A 1772 Dutch report included the name Mampo (Mampong) in their records. This indicates that Mampong had been founded before 1772. The name Mampong might have been taken from the Shai village, Mankpon. Another tradition indicated that early settlers, after defeating an invading Asante army moved from an old settlement to a new one – the Damti shrine neighborhood. In jubilation, they uttered the Akan words "Yɛabedu ha yi de, yɛapɔn" Meaning, so far so good! Constant use of that phrase evolved to become Mampong. Ashanti Region
The Ashanti Region is located in southern part of Ghana and it is the third largest of 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of or 10.2 percent of the total land area of Ghana. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong is a Ghanaian politician and member of the Seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana and the Eight Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana representing the Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti Region on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. Anglican Diocese Of Asante Mampong, Ghana
The Anglican Diocese of Asante Mampong was inaugurated on 23 November 2014, having previously been within the Diocese of Kumasi. The first Diocesan Bishop of Asante Mampong is Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, formerly suffragan bishop under the authority of the Bishop of Kumasi. The new Diocese covers a remote rural and forest area of the Ashanti region and supports practical ministry in education, health and the provision of clean water as a part of its Christian mission. Mampong Municipal District
Mampong Municipal Assembly is one of the forty-three districts in Ashanti Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Sekyere West District in 1988, which was created from the former Sekyere District Council. However on 1 November 2007, the eastern part of the district was split off to create Sekyere Central District; while the remaining portion has since then been officially renamed as Mampong Municipal District, which it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on that same year. Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa
Lieutenant General Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa Born (24 April 1936 – 26 June 1979) was a Ghanaian soldier, farmer, traditional ruler and politician. He was the head of state of Ghana and leader of the military government in 1969 and then chairman of the Presidential Commission between 1969 and 1970. He continued as a farmer and political activist. He was elected a member of Parliament in 1979, but he was executed before he could take his seat. He was executed together with two other former heads of state, General Kutu Acheampong and General Fred Akuffo, and five other generals (Utuka, Felli, Boakye, Robert Kotei and Amedume), in June 1979. Reginald Reynolds Amponsah
Reginald Reynolds Amponsah (30 December 1919 – 3 June 2009) was a pottery, potter and Ghanaian politician of the first Parliament of the Second Republic representing the Mampong North Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He was a Minister of State in the Busia government. Education Amponsah completed his secondary education at the Achimota School in 1942. He was the school prefect for his year. Ebenezer Augustus Kwasi Akuoko
Ebenezer Augustus Kwasi Akuoko (1928 – 2021) was a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He was the Member of parliament for Mampong North in the Third Republic of Ghana. He became a member of parliament following a by-election due to the execution by firing squad of Afrifa and other senior military officers on 26 June 1979. Afrifa had won the seat in the 1979 Ghanaian general election but never got to take his seat in parliament. His execution followed a coup d'état on 4 June 1979 which led to the formation of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council military government. He was married to Sophia Nana Wiba Sackey with whom he had two daughters, Anastasia and Felicia. She died after a short illness in October 2019. Akuoko died in October 2021 aged 93. Yaa Gyasi (born 1989) is a Ghanaian-American novelist.
